    Runaway Bullet - Nicole Clark

    Dedicated to: Edi and Rene

I don’t know what I would do without you two.

    Prologue:

During Matt and Sam’s wedding reception, Jon had spotted the woman that had actually made his heart skip a beat. He didn’t know who she was or if she was even related to someone that was at the wedding. The biggest thing that he remembered was that she had red hair. From where he’d been standing with Matt, that was all he could tell about her.

One minute she was there, the next she wasn’t. Part of him thought that she was a just a figment of his imagination. Blame it on the fact that he was at a wedding and two of his best friends were now married and in love. Wasn’t that how it worked? A transference of feelings or some shit like that? The same thing that made all the bridesmaids cry and run for the bouquet when it was tossed.

All his doubts about her being a figment of his imagination faded when he held her in his arms on New Years and placed his lips against hers. When their lips melded together he felt the entire world fade away and all he saw was her. But, after their kiss ended, she was gone once again.

It wasn’t in the universe’s plans for him to fall in love and be happy like those around him. He was the cold, heartless one that knew how to use every weapon that landed in his hands as well as the one that until recently, hardly spoke. No girl could ever love someone who liked to break bones with a smile on his face.

So all he was stuck with was the memory of a girl that he would never see again.

    One:

    Jon!

Glancing up, he growled at the prospect who was yelling for him. It was a younger demon and frankly grated every nerve that Jon had. Looking back down to his magazine, Jon ignored the cries of help from the younger demon. It wasn’t his fault that the idiot didn’t know how to work a lift. Shouldn’t be in the shop in his opinion, but the shop wasn’t his so he couldn’t just kick him out. If Josh wanted to replace tools and lifts then that was his decision and his money that he was wasting.

Speaking of Josh, he glanced towards the office and saw that the girl Clarisse had trained was there. So much for him being there to yell over things being destroyed due to the level stupidity. Not even Matt was there today.

Jon! Little help? The pleas for help continued even though they’d been ignored.

Sighing, he got up and walked over. Are you a fucking moron? You put the bike on the lift and push the GREEN button! Damn!

You don’t have to yell, the younger demon whined.

Instead of answering, Jon reached out and smacked the prospect in the back of the head. I can yell if I want to. I’m not in a good mood today so just shut up and do your job.

You’re always in a bad mood, he muttered as he did what Jon had instructed him to.

Damn straight, Jon retorted as he headed back over to his station and sat back on his stool with his magazine till the end of his shift.

    ~*~*~*~*~

When closing time hit, Jon kicked everyone out and locked up the shop. He needed to get the keys over to Josh and then he planned on hitting one of his favorite bars. If he was lucky, he’d get a girl to go home with him. Although, that wasn’t the first thought on his mind. The first was to unwind and get the gorgeous redhead out of his head. He was never going
