Chapter One

Amelia had been in her ghost-like form for almost a year now. It was late October and as opposed to the way she felt about October 31st when she was alive, she was excited to see it in this form. Glad to see the years slip by and bring her closer to life again. This half death she stagnated in was getting old, fast.

It was harder than usual to resist torturing herself. She was becoming a glutton for punishment she supposed, which was why she was making her way back to the east coast. Drawn in by what she could sense of Daray. She was just so lonely, wanted to be near him for a moment, wanted to be reminded why she was going through this hell again. He was her murderer, but he was also her lover. Just as cursed by all this as she was.

All because of Zarah, the sorceress who owned Daray. She had brought him up out of some dark layer of hell. Zarah hadn’t taken it well when Daray and her had fallen in love. In her jealousy, Zarah had ordered Daray to kill Amelia. Daray had taken mercy and killed her at the height of passionate release. That had been a mistake, Zarah had been angry enough to curse them both to this repeating pattern of death.

The worst part of the curse was the choice. Amelia could end it all if she chose to lose him. She was determined to keep going though, living, dying and being in between, until they figured out a way to beat Zarah at her game.

The kind of depression she was currently feeling about her now sixth cycle of death didn’t usually set in until she hit around the fifty-year mark. It was shaping up to be a hard death for her. She couldn’t think of anything new to see or do, and that made her antsy. So she was going to torture herself by getting closer to him. Most likely the stupidest thing for her to decide to do, but even masochism looked good when you were desperately alone.
