About this ebook

Ryan loves bikes – it’s all he ever thinks about. Ryan also has Cerebral Palsy and will never be able to ride a bike of his own.

One of Ryan’s favorite things to do is watch his older sister, Megan, ride her bike. Megan knows that, deep down, Ryan wishes he could be the one riding. Megan finds a special bike made just for people like Ryan, but her family cannot afford to buy one. Instead, Megan is left to entertain her brother with stunts that she can do on her bike - that is, until the day she breaks her arm while attempting a new trick.

Ryan is heartbroken that Megan can’t ride her bike, but becomes devastated when he learns that she’s afraid to get back on it! With Ryan’s support and encouragement (and a special surprise for Ryan), Megan is able to overcome her fear and, together, they learn never to give up on their dreams.

Author

Heather Payer-Smith

Originally from Northwest Pennsylvania, Heather currently resides in Kilgore, Texas with her husband, Derek, and their beloved pets. She earned a BA in Media Production from the University of Oklahoma and enjoys working full-time as a graphic designer for a local advertising agency. Growing up with a rich imagination, Heather always sought a creative outlet, be it in the form of painting & drawling, dance, performing in community theater or creating amateur film/video projects. Though she never dreamed of being an author, it was only a matter of time before Heather discovered a knack for writing stories. She began writing her first book in 2005, but her publishing experience began in 2008 as an illustrator with Lily Ruth Publishing, providing interior and cover art for three books. In June of 2011, Heather independently released her first novel, ”The Nameless World” (middle-grade fiction) followed by three more releases, “A Recycled Christmas” (early reader), “Ryan’s Bike” (chapter book) and "The Little Green Umbrella" (early reader). In 2012, Heather took her publishing journey full-circle when Lily Ruth Publishing took interest in one of her early reader stories and offered a publishing contract for "The Best Basketball Player Ever." "It's kind of funny to look back on my life so far and see where my path has led me. In high school or college, if you had asked me where I saw myself in ten years, my answer would not have been 'I want to be a writer,' and yet, here I am. I'm just excited to have the opportunity to share my stories with people. Even more, I'm thrilled to know that people actually enjoy them. I'd say that is the biggest reward of it all." CHAPTER 1

Ryan wore a big smile on his face as he watched his sister, Megan, brace herself, take a running start and jump onto the pedals of her bike, pumping and pumping as she rode along without even touching the seat.

Ryan laughed and squealed in delight.

Megan was so good at riding bikes. Sometimes she would even pedal along with no hands to steer, but she never, ever crashed. She lowered herself onto the seat of the bike and coasted along the trail at the park. She turned and waved to Ryan and their mom before speeding off to catch up with her friends.

Ryan raised his arm as high as he could, just past his shoulder, and shook his hand in
