CHAPTER 1 ~ A SPELL FOR JOY

This simple ritual celebrates the return of joy to our lives and helps dispel negative energy and emotions. Spring is the perfect time to invoke this spell, as we are usually awakening from what seems like hibernation at the same time as Mother Earth. The days grow longer and we anticipate the power of life bursting forth from winter’s confines. However, this spell can be performed any time you feel the need for happiness and renewal.

A JOYFUL SPELL

Set your altar with the appropriate cleansed and charged tools, including a small dish or cauldron of magickal herbes (see Supplies, below), for a philtre which will be used for bathing and one yellow candle. You will also need a pen and paper or your Book of Shadows.

Anoint your altar candles and forehead with Lavender oil. Light the altar candles and a stick or cone of Vervain incense. You will dress and light the yellow candle during the ritual.

THE RITUAL

When you are ready, walk anticlockwise at least three times around the altar to close the circle. Focus and chant, May the power of this circle bring success to my spell work, or your own special words.

The circle is now closed. Summon the Four Elements and the Goddess as follows:

Facing East, raise the blade and say: I greet thee East, manifest as air and the blade. Grace this circle with your knowledge and inspiration. Be here now. Blessed be.

Facing South, raise the wand and say: I greet thee South,
