    One thing that the Perkins family took great pride in was their dinner parties. It seemed that they were always willing to host a party for whatever occasion happened along. Of course, as their maid, that always meant more work for me, but truth be told, I really didn’t mind. I could always count on the Perkins’ to bring in extra help for these affairs, and I got to take charge over the temporary staff. It also meant a nice little bonus for me, so who’s complaining?

    I took a lot of pride in the fact that Mrs. Perkins trusted me to supervise all of her little parties. The first time they had one after I started working for them, she had me follow along and observe everything she did. She went to a lot of trouble to explain why she wanted the furniture arranged in a specific manner and just exactly when to serve drinks or cocktails or dinner.

    Then she had me observe the supervising of the catering staff and the servers to make sure I knew where to position everybody and what to be looking for at all times. There were also additional maids brought in to help attend to the guests and to make sure that everybody was given
