The Mental Keys To Improve Your Golf - Michael Anthony
INTRODUCTION
When I first introduced The Mental Keys to Improve Your Golf to the golf world in 1999 through my Web site, www.MentalKeys.com, I was an unknown author. However, I knew that I had a proven formula for success: The Mental Keys. These keys produce results, once you or any golfer understand the principles and put them into practice.
Since that time, thousands of golfers have read my book, improved their mental games, and lowered their scores. My golf Web site has so many testimonials from golfers at all levels raving about their lower scores that it is safe to say it’s now a proven fact that The Mental Keys work if you use them. I’m happy to report that many golfers and golf instructors are highly recommending my book and companion CD, Using the Mental Keys to Polish the Wheel,
to their friends, associates, and students.
There is a famous saying, If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Since my first edition of The Mental Keys to Improve Your Golf has worked so well, and helped thousands of golfers around the world to lower their scores, this enhanced edition will include much of my original manuscript word for word. After all, why change something if it is a proven success?
This enhanced edition includes additional insights and practical suggestions that will help you apply the principles and concepts of The Mental Keys to your golf game. If you want to lower your score, all you have to do is study and practice these mental keys. The only prerequisites that you need to bring to the table are a strong desire to improve, an open mind, and total honesty, so you can learn from your mistakes once you know how.
On professional golf tours it is common knowledge that what separates winners from losers is located between their ears. Winners think and act differently from the losers. Winners go into slumps, and losers become winners overnight when their states of mind changes. It is not mechanics or talent alone that make the difference. Let’s face it, you must possess tons of talent and already have mastered the skills needed to hit a wide variety of shots just to get on tour.
Until recently, almost all the books written about golf focus on the mechanics and reveal little about how your mind and body function together as a harmonious unit. If you are a recreational golfer with limited time to practice, your mechanics will be limited and so will your performance.
However, since you use your mind all the time, you really have unlimited opportunities to improve how you think. Thinking more positively will improve your golf and lower your score, in spite of your mechanical limitations. If you are a professional golfer, this book can help you improve your state of mind, increase your confidence and move you up the money-winning list!
How you think determines your level of success in everything you do in life, not just golf. This book provides you with one of the most profound, yet easy to understand, explanations of how you function and process information as a human being. It gives you The Mental Keys, a proven formula for success. By understanding what makes you tick and why things work, it becomes easier to achieve whatever you desire.
I have applied this formula to golf for a very simple reason. When it comes down to performance in golf, or any sport, the mind/body connection is critical and cannot be denied. The more positive you are the better you perform. You can use this formula to improve your mental game and lower your score as well as improve your life.
These mental keys will explain the mind/body connection in relation to your brain’s chemistry and much more. Simple, common sense concepts make up these mental keys and produce results, if you use them. Your improvement is only limited by the strength of your desire to improve, and the actions you take to implement the ideas explained in this book.
The Mental Keys to Improve Your Golf is a synthesis of many of the best teachings passed on throughout the ages, as well as modern physiological discoveries about the mind/body connection and your chemical brain. These mental keys show you how to be more successful in everything you do. It is a culmination of almost twenty years of research, study and practical application of my findings in the pragmatic arena of athletic competition where the bottom line is measured by tangible results.
If you want to hear the praise from numerous golfers raving about their lower scores from using The Mental Keys, visit my Web site, www.MentalKeys.com, and read the never ending testimonials that keep coming in. I have received so many glowing testimonials from golfers that I very rarely add the new ones to my Web site, simply because it takes too long for the testimonial pages to load.
Even though it is not related to golf, Lynne Jewell, Allison Jolley, and Ruby Fox, who won Gold, Gold, and Silver medals, repectively, in the Olympics, thanked me for my mental training consultations which helped them achieve their Olympic goals in sailing and pistol shooting.
I could take up many pages of this Introduction with positive testimonials from golfers at all levels, but I would rather get down to the task at hand – explaining to you the mental keys that will help you lower your score and become more successful in everything you do in life.
If you Think you are beaten, you are,
If you Think you dare not, you don’t
If you like to win, but Think you can’t
It is almost certain you won’t!
If you Think you’re outclassed, you are,
You’ve got to Think high to rise,
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
If you Think You’ll lose, you’re lost
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow’s Will ...
It’s all in the state of Mind.
Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the man who Thinks he can!

THE GAME PLAN
The goal of this book is to make you aware of how your spirit, mind, and body function as a unit according to natural and universal principles. This awareness will help you understand why and how to change your thoughts and actions to become more successful in golf, life, work, or whatever you desire.
This book focuses primarily on golf so you can clearly understand the mind/body connection by showing you why your negativity in any degree adversely affects your performance and score. Once you understand how these principles apply to golf, you can easily relate them to anything else.
I have done many one-on-one consultations with golfers at all levels, as well as elite and professional athletes in other sports. They all acknowledged that, when they are negative, their performance immediately suffers. In the game of life, sometimes it takes years before negative thoughts and actions take their toll. In just one round of golf, you can experience what seems a lifetime of negative emotions that take an immediate toll on your performance and score.
Since I cannot talk in person to each and every one of you, I will use general explanations to relate these mental keys to you. You can arrive at your own conclusions of why and how to make the necessary adjustments to your personal thoughts and actions to become more successful and lower your score.
Your own personal experiences will prove to you that The Mental Keys make total sense and work if you use them. Once you personally experience this fact, you can use these keys to keep lowering your score to much lower levels as long as you continue to study and use them. Of course, the more you improve your mechanics as well as your mental game the lower you will score.
The mental keys that I will be explaining to you are conceptual representations of why and how your thoughts affect the chemistry of your brain, and other factors that influence your performance. These insights will help you to understand how you function and what you can do to improve your mental game.
This book takes a common sense approach to a very profound explanation of what makes you tick as a human being. The secret to success and lower scores is to understand and know what works. Then, concentrate on doing the work required to improve.
Unfortunately, most golfers do not want to do the work needed to lower their scores. Instead, they keep looking for another book or method for shortcuts to success rather than doing the necessary work required to improve their mental game.
You can stop searching for the answer. All you have to do is keep working at perfecting my mental keys until you have one of the best mental games around. Think of it this way, First you work, then you get paid.
Have you ever found it to be different?
This is not a conventional book that just tells you what to do or gives you a quick fix. Instead, the information acts like a mirror and provides a solid foundation to build on, based upon your own personal experiences. It shows you where you are and what you have to do to move up to the next level.
This mirror works by asking you to reflect on the principles of The Mental Keys. You will see for yourself what changes need to be made in your thoughts and actions to increase your success and lower your score. Rationalizations and excuses will no longer be options, if
