It all started with a simple moment.

"Maybe we make a deal, Nikki whispered, leaning in closer to Keri, running her fingers up her friend’s arm. Maybe we do this tonight. Maybe we all get what we want. Deep down, what we all really, really want."

I’ll never forget those words. Because what Nikki suggested to Keri and I was exactly what happened.

We have to get off the road, Keri said. This is nuts.

A good six inches of snow had already fallen, maybe more. We knew it would be snowing – hell, that’s why we hit the slopes -- but we didn’t know it would be this bad this quickly. The plows couldn’t keep up. Nikki’s SUV crossover was only so good in this much snow.

I have a place, Nikki said, peering out over the steering wheel. My sister’s. She’s about 15 miles from here.

Fifteen miles sounds better than 75 back into the city, I said from the back seat. That’s how it worked when I went somewhere with both Nikki and Keri. A girl’s trip. Back seat for me. I didn’t mind. Nikki was a hot companion, adventurous, aggressive. We’d been together for almost a year and when we were out she made me look all the stud because of her car-crash good looks. And I never minded Keri joining us. Blond and lithe, Keri was also easy on the eyes. To me, she seemed to have this understated sexuality, something that some lucky man would someday unleash. For now she remained low-key and funny. And she could snowboard like an X-Games champ. I know. I’d just watched her do it all day.

One thing I’ve learned when Nikki invited Keri out with us for little day trips like this one: It was never difficult for a guy to travel with two gorgeous women.

Think we can make it? Keri asked, looking out at the whirling snowflakes.

We’ll make it, Nikki said.

Might want to phone your sis to let her know we’re coming, I said.

Nikki shook her head. She and the hubby are out of town for the week on a Caribbean getaway. So the house is empty.
