As I look back on my life, I recognize that for many years I lived a shell-shocked existence, reeling from experience to experience in a state of complete numbness and confusion. Raised in an environment that lacked an underlying sense of spirituality, I was blind to the boundless wealth and beauty that was within me. Finally, the anguish of my heart was so severe that it awakened me from the hell I had been living for decades. As much as I would like to tell you that this was a grand epiphany, this was not the case. I was simply sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Chapter One: Your Chariot Awaits

As you wipe the final traces of morning sleep from your eyes, you still can't believe the dream you were having. Now awake, you think your eyes are deceiving you, because in your driveway glistens a brand-new, pearly-white luxury sedan. You suddenly realize you weren't dreaming at all. This is real! A chauffeur holds the door open and awaits your instructions. He has been guided to take you anywhere you wish to go. You are in complete shock, thinking, This can't possibly be happening to me! After all, you've never won anything in your life; this must be a mistake. At the same time, there's a small part of you that holds a ray of hope in your heart - but, alas, reason prevails. You have done nothing to deserve this luck or luxury in your life. You drive an old clunker, and that's that. So you do what you must, drag yourself outside and tell the driver he has the wrong house.

Your Choice: Dead End or Super Highway?

I, too, once believed I was unworthy of anything good, but long gone are my days of settling for clunkers: cheating husbands, backstabbing co-workers, and those ridiculous platinum highlights I got under the delusion that blondes really do have more fun. I now recognize my true divine heritage and subscribe, without reservation, to the belief that I am worth everything. When an astonishing event occurs in my life, I think, Yes, this is what God can do, as I smile in delight and in awe of the beauty that surrounds me.

Do you really think that you don't rank highly enough in pedigree to deserve a life of peace, happiness, and abundance? Let me share with you the real secret that seems to have been overlooked in today's culture: You (as is the case with all living beings) are made of divine DNA. You've just not recognized it, because it has been lying dormant within you for so long. Fortunately, although the luster and brilliance of this truth has been overlooked, it has by no means been lost.

I understand this better than anyone. In my earlier days, you could find me in the bars and at the parties, riding the high tides of a vodka tonic, sloe gin fizz, or Captain Morgan and Coke. If I wasn't closing the place down, it was closing me down. You could find me strung out and puking in the ditches off the old country roads where I lived. Party 'til you puke was the life I lived for many years. It was very avant-garde to be the party girl, or so I thought. Some got stoned, some gambled, some got laid, I got drunk. It doesn't matter what poison you pick in your life, if done in the presence of fear and lack of love, it becomes significantly deadlier. I finally woke up and realized that a pauper never finds her way to her castle. Do you know why? Because paupers live on the other side of the tracks in the gutters of hell, where the streetlights are dimly lit. They are too drunk, stoned, or poor to find the way home.

I began to understand that the way out of this inner hell I had been living for so long was to envision what type of life I truly desired. To imagine your highest potential is to discover the dreams hidden in your soul that push you forward toward the life you are meant to live. If there was ever a way to conceptualize the benefits of a personal-enrichment plan, it would be imagining the very moment you are stepping into the sports car of your dreams. I mean really, who would want that experience to end? Can you see yourself taking a gentle, relaxing trip across the countryside of southern France or an exciting adventure on an African safari? You are in charge of your journey. Claim your golden birthright of abundance and direct the car toward the road that will lead you to freedom.

Are You on the Golden Path?

The problem is that most women don't take any time for their Self, let alone embark on a journey to discover the hidden treasures within. For many women, time is like a cherry pie, sliced up and given out generously, only to come up short as they look at their own empty plates. This cannot remain the status quo. In fact, it must not. It is up to you to take time to peer into the crystal ball and uncover your true longings and desires.

I am sure you have met women who were so completely caught up in the joys of parenting that, in comparison, you felt as if you were failing your children miserably. The replica of the prefect mom is one who exists on five hours of sleep a night and is up at 5:00_A.M.,_polished to perfection. There are pancakes on the table every morning, freshly baked cookies ready after school, clothes neatly pressed, a well-balanced meal on the table every night. This modern day wonder woman is loving, caring, nurturing, and never has a lock of hair out of place. Imagine, all this without a nanny on contract! Furthermore, this modern-day June Cleaver digitally captures every single moment of her child's life and spends the wee hours of the evening creating museum-quality scrapbooks. She is a mighty scrapbook warrior, cutting and pasting every athletic event, art project, vacation, and homecoming dance her children ever participated in, and then some.

Hopefully, this wonder-mom type I'm describing is doing all this because these activities fill her heart with unbridled joy. She has discovered her purpose, and the energy expended doesn't equate to work in her mind, but pleasure. The joy comes from doing what fills her heart with joy - in this case, being a highly involved and engaged mother.

Now, don't be fooled. You may see many moms who appear to have idyllic lives, while inside, they feel as if they are drowning. The story gets lonely when, amidst this collaging frenzy, women don't stop to ask themselves what their true passion really is. They may be fulfilling their own unique purpose, realizing their own destiny - or they may be going through the motions, while their true dreams and desires are hidden elsewhere. I very rarely meet a lady who has created a scrapbook for her Self.

So, while you may feel somehow less than as you watch Wonder Mom work miracles, the epitome of the perfect parent may not be who you are supposed to be. Your job is to find your unique purpose, not copy what you see others doing. The problem is that most people have no clue what their true purpose is and what fills their heart with joy. They make the mistake of trying to keep everyone else afloat, without first putting on their own life preservers. Think about it, there is a reason why the airlines instruct passengers to put the oxygen mask on yourself BEFORE assisting your child or anyone else. I mean, consider how the movie ends, when you decide to be a hero and place that oxygen mask on your beloved's face first? Well, there are many probable endings to that story, but trust me - a happy ending it is not!

If this is you, mark my words. I can attest to the fact that if you do not start heeding the call of your inner voice, you may never get the chance to put on your spiritual oxygen mask and save your inner life. If you need another metaphor, you might compare yourself to a car that's been running on fumes and finally sputters to a stop. You will recognize this breakdown, because you will find yourself on the floor gasping for air. All kidding - and all metaphors - aside, you will become sick, too tired to get out of bed, depressed, unhappy, anxious, or as explosive as a lit firecracker.

The call of unhappiness in any area of your life signals that you are out of balance. To get back in balance, you must start unraveling what it is that is causing tension, learn how to release and heal it, and move forward along a different course. Your job isn't to be the perfect mom, but to be the perfect you. You must uncover the desires your heart holds and invite them into your life now, even if it is just small steps in the beginning.

It is imperative to spend some time getting to know yourself and learning to love yourself, so your unique gifts can unfold like a beautiful rose, opening one petal at a time. Many women don't do this because they feel guilty about taking time away from their families. Guilt is a self-defeating emotion that works wonders at breaking down and depleting your sense of worth. If you don't nourish the beauty within, I can tell you that you are not truly living, and your heart will wither and die. By forging ahead into the unknown terrain of your heart and soul, you will give yourself and your family the biggest gift of all: The gift of peace and harmony. So I plead with you, use the key you have been given and unlock the door to your heart, so you can hear the chords of the beautiful harp playing within.

This leads me back to the topic at hand, which is discovering the beauty within by uncovering your passions and purpose in life. A great way to start this process is to handcraft a scrapbook dedicated to your personal pursuits. You will no longer be creating a book filled with past events, but one of a life that you desire to live right now, in this moment. Its purpose is to assist you in discovering the dreams hidden in your soul and push you forward, toward the life that you are meant to live. I applaud your act of devotion in cutting, gluing and primping the tokens of wonderful past events that have occurred in your children's lives. However, it is equally important to put forth the energy to give yourself the same gift of love, with an activity that will benefit your life in so many rich and wonderful ways.

Ask yourself a few questions to discover where you are in the process of today's reality versus tomorrow's opportunities. Are you moving in a direction that brings you peace? Are you happy with your current situation at home and at work? What would you change right now, if money were no object? How would you enjoy living? What would you improve upon? There is no better time than the present to start contemplating the possibilities of embarking on a personal-enrichment plan.

Take the Driver's Seat

It is the dawning of a new day, and I implore you to start putting yourself first, above all others. And believe me I know that reading this statement could very well push a hot button in your heart. Your ego screams, Is she kidding? Please be careful not to drop any glue on that beautiful cashmere sweater, as I know I have presented some pretty stunning news: In short, you get to move to the head of the line. So many women think that in putting themselves first, they are neglecting their motherly or wifely duties. My question is: Who defined these so-called duties anyway? Were they self-imposed, conditioned from your upbringing, or forced upon you by your spouse? It's time to trade in the old- clunker thinking patterns of the past and open up to a new model of thinking and living. I am most certainly not telling you to neglect your kids, but to nurture your spirit, so that you will be able to give back to your children and family more than ever before. I challenge you to be brutally honest with yourself. Do you feel like you are fulfilling your life's purpose? Do you know what your purpose is? Do you constantly get that feeling that there is something more that you should be doing, but you don't know what it is?

A scrapbook made for you and by you is going to help you sort through some of these questions. But before getting started with this process, I want you to let your imagination run wild and think BIG with this project. I am talking Live Your Best Life, Oprah big. You will be cutting out pictures and designing and scripting your life, as you desire it to be. I know that for some of you, this is going to be a trip into uncharted territory, because so many of you do so little for yourselves. This is your architectural project, and you are the master builder who is free to create anything you
