About this ebook
When Jack Prescott’s older, doting sister, Mabel, and her back-slapping jokester of a husband, Biff, show up unexpectedly and insist on meeting his fictitious fiancée, Jennifer, panic sets in. Fortunately for him, his neighbor, Valerie DiPietranitoni, arrives just in time to play that role. So well does she perform it that they decide to end the charade and try the real thing.

Although I’ve made my living as a teacher and guidance counselor, I’ve always had a passion for writing. Thomas Bouregy and Company published my novel, Return to Paradise Cove, under their Avalon imprint. Two of my one-act plays, A Different Kind of Death, and The Flirt, have been produced, respectively, in New Haven, Connecticut, and Sacramento, California. Short stories of mine have appeared in commercial magazines such as Action and True Romance as well as in certain literary and professional ones.

Scene One
Setting: We are in the living room of a small apartment. In the center is a sofa, flanked on each side by matching end tables and lamps. Diagonally next to the left end table is an armchair. On that same table lies a telephone. On the wall to the right is a door leading outside. On the left one is a clock and another door connecting the living room to the rest of the apartment. There’s a window on the rear wall.
At Rise: Jack is sprawled on the sofa, reading the sports page of the newspaper when the telephone rings. He reaches over and picks up the receiver.
Jack
Hello . . .
(making a face)
Oh, this is a surprise. How are you and Biff doing? . . . Yes, both Jennifer and I, too, are well. As a matter of fact she’ll be dropping by any moment. . . . No, we haven’t set a date for the wedding. . . . Don’t worry; you’ll be the first to know. .
