Introduction

When a boxer competes as an amateur in the sport of boxing it’s mostly for the love and learning of the game. He or she is full of big dreams while maybe entertaining the motivating thought of one day going to the Olympics, or the aspiration thought of one day becoming the next champion of the world. There’s a lot of fun being on a team traveling and competing against other teams. You get to meet new people make new friends and for the most part have lots of fun. But this thought of fun for the most part changes when you consider becoming a professional in this sport. The moment you decide to go professional your status change from boxer to fighter, or another title not used as much is pugilist, meaning combatant. Even though in the heart the love of the sport is alive and well, that which was fun and games now turns into work, money, and business.

Welcome to the business of Professional Boxing. The Sport of Professional Boxing in it’s self is a profession, a business, a career choice. As with any profession underlying the name is the business or work at hand. To operate successfully in any profession you must have some knowledge and some understanding of the functions and operations needed to bring success in that business. The business of Professional boxing is no different. For starts if you are a coach and have no business experience you might consider taking a small business start up course, or maybe work with someone that’s currently running a successful Business, or add someone to your team who has business experience, who can consult and help the team with the day to day operations of running your new business (team). By doing this you could give yourself an edge on moving your fighter with more success, and possibly be able to help the fighter live out his dreams in this profession.

By having Team Business savvy your team has more control over its direction, the career of the fighter, and probably can avoid having to go places and do things that leave you at the end of the day in a worse position than you where when you started.

In today’s climate boxers and coaches alike would benefit to gain some knowledge of the business aspect of there profession, seeking to succeed in the business of boxing by giving as much passion, hard work, and diligence, as that put forth in the boxing ring learning skills and techniques. For in doing this the end result may not be winning a world championship belt, making a million dollars, or it may not even mean a shot at a title, but
