About this ebook
Interferon Diary (The Patient’s Opinion) by Dan McCannInterferon, hepatitis C and being a post-liver transplant patient and are probably areas of interest for you or someone you know if you are reading this. My purpose is that this publication may help readers deal with any and all issues of interest in these pages. Among many other things, this diary records my struggle to understand the unrelenting pressure I was under from my post-transplant doctors—to continue taking interferon in some form or dosage even after two failed trials over a 2 ½ year period. My experiences as a post-liver transplant patient with hep C and being a musician are blended together in this diary (2007 to 2011) as I tried to recover my health and continue working in music in both Los Angeles, California and Austin, Texas. I recorded the push and pull I experienced as a patient, between doctors and programs. I have changed the names of medical personnel, including doctors and nurses, and friends in the diary.Everything; from diary entries, medical test results and song lyrics to emails and letters are used in the telling. The relationship between my girlfriend and I (who was also a caretaker of my mother who had Alzheimer’s disease at the time of my liver transplant) are part of the story. My struggles and recovery regarding alcohol, drugs, medical programs, friends and fellow musicians are all present, as my story deals with post-liver transplant convalescence, interferon therapy, and quality of life decisions.
