I like this bible. There is a lot to read each day because it's divided into sections so that you read one largish portion each day so by the end of the year you've completed the whole. It commences at Genesis and takes you right through the whole of the old testament and new. Because I've read it annually since it was given to me I feel like skipping a bit here and there. Somehow it helped me to assimilate the old testament with the new and to understand more about the Jewish culture and to some degree that of other beliefs and practises too. There's a good cross reference section at the back so it's easy to find your familiar readings although you may need to use it often because the Gospels do nnot always appear in the same order they were written. Great for comparing the different aspects of the life and times of Jesus - each miracle etc contains the different versions in one group. I found that it gave me a new perspective and helped the text to become clearer.I'm not sure if it's a stand alone bible - more of a study bible; although I do know of several people who have it and it is their only one and they're quite happy with it.Takes a bit of getting used to at first.

How do you review a bible? "Yes, this version of God's Word is better than Blank's version of God's Word."? :-)Yes, versions do matter, I suppose, and the NIV version is a great version for readability. The text flows well and it is coherent and easily understood. I'm not sure I'd likely use it for studying scripture, but for daily reading it is a good translation. This one is broken up into daily readings, letting you read the bible in one year. It doesn't include the Apocryphal books, but only the books generally found in the Protestant version of the bible. It is designed nicely to include readings from different parts of the bible on a daily basis without burdoning the reader with lots of extraneous text or discussion to confuse them. This is scripture laid bare, and given in a daily dose. Nice. This version has a bonded leather cover, gilt edges and a place-mark ribbon. It feels good in one's hand. It is also large print, for those of us with aging vision apparatus. We get to the point where we can't hold the book far enough away to read it! Overall, I like the way this book is constructed and thought out, and will make it a part of my daily prayer and study. It's nicely done.
