Simply and authentically rich, powerful, and grounding. What a tremendous legacy to leave a son - and the fact that it would speak beyond, to pastors such as myself, is an anointed gift.

I have read some of Eugene Peterson’s other works, and although this work has Eugene’s son Eric as the author, it contains letters from Eugene to Eric regarding life and pastoring. I especially enjoyed the talks discussing the differences in denominations and the different practices of the clergy. The preacher calling the authorities when he found a dead mule in the front yard was hilarious, especially the when the officer asked wasn’t the clergy in charge of the dead, and the preacher retort, yes, but only after notifying the next of kin. Highly recommended…SLT

Ad hoc, unpretentious letters from Eugene Peterson to his son Eric as he finds his footing and experiences spiritual formation in the pastorate. Guileless, unguarded, self-deprecating, and earnest, these letters create a treasure trove of wisdom and encouragement for any pastor or adult child.
