About this audiobook
Francesca di Paoli, an immigrant fallen on hard times, reaches what she hopes is a safe haven in Jackson Hole in June, 1925 . . . only to narrowly miss dying in the historic Gros Ventre landslide. Hired as a cook at the Snake River Dude Ranch, she and the rest of the valley inhabitants watch a new lake form along a dammed river. Poised above homes and ranches, will the three-hundred foot wall of debris hold back the waters? Over the next two years of the Roaring Twenties, Francesca’s fate entwines with the Sutton family who own the ranch. The firstborn, William, appears to be the steady one, but harbors a longing to be seen as more than the owner's son. Bryce, believing his parents care more for William, spends time away from home . . . until he decides to compete with his brother for Francesca. Tensions rise as Bitter Waters, the Nez Perce uncle of the Sutton men comes to the ranch to die, raking up secrets of their heritage and attracting the attention of the Ku Klux Klan. In the valley, ranchers clash over a controversial proposal to make Jackson Hole a new National Park . . . and residents continue to fear the unstable slide block as earth tremors shake its foundation. Swept up in the floodtide of history, what will become of Francesca, William, and Bryce?

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Jackson Hole Journey is the story of a dude ranch in 1920’s Wyoming. It is a period of change in the West and Ms. Jacobs shows the conflicts that are occurring through this one dude ranch. It is a time of Prohibition, falling prices in the cattle industry, modernization, and ethnic friction. All of these seem to come together in the lives of the people on this ranch. It is a story of the rivalry between two brothers for the acceptance of their parents and over the beautiful Italian cook that comes into their lives. Part of this rivalry has to do with their heritage as part Nez Perce Native Americans. There is always friction when the two brothers are together. It is also the story of Francesca falling in love with the surroundings in Jackson Hole. Her plans to go to California are forgotten as she falls in love with the area as well as the family and the two brothers. Despite the struggle between the two brothers her love for the land grows stronger every day.The story is a compilation of actual historical events from John D. Rockefeller’s visit to look at buying up property to create the Grand Teton National Preserve to a tragic flash flood in the valley. Ms. Jacobs does an excellent job of giving us a view of what life would be like during the Roaring 20s in Jackson Hole. The struggle to keep and protect the land and ease into the changes that are occurring throughout the country. It shows how an individual can come to love the land, a place, and want to remain there. An excellent job.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5JACKSON HOLE JOURNEY by Linda JacobsThis book is about a family in the wild west and they run a ranch and up against many political things such as land rights and the beginning of the National Park Service.Love this book for many reasons: the detailed travel descriptions and the historical facts of Yellowstone and Teton Mountains when they were first set up inthe National Park System and the nature all around. Love story on many different counts is fascinating to read. Love the food and how things are prepared in the time of the book.Like hearing of the family traditions and the family over the decades. Like how Francesa takes control of her life from the beginning and wonder if she will leave to continue onto CA like she has dreams of...or if she will make a decision as to which brother she loves the most...Terrifying to hear of the earthquakes and what the professionals learn from what they see...Journal Laura keeps help make you realize not only her political fears but personal family ones.So much heartache and pain that they have all lived through over the years...
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5First, let me say I enjoyed this book very much & would recommend it to others. The story line had a strong emphasis on sibling rivalry, included romance, and had a focus on scenery. The sibling focus was quite realistic, & mirrored some of my own family's issues, as, I'm sure, it will others. The author described the scenery such that I could easily visualize the area, although never having been there. Intertwined in the story was historical information which added much to the storyline, which, flowed smoothly. Overall, I think it was a very good read.
