About this audiobook

The discovery of a long lost spaceship transporting an experimental quantum device ignites a system-wide power struggle.

Commander Scott McNabb and the crew of the science vessel, Hermes, are three years into a five-year-long survey of the asteroid belt when they discover a derelict spaceship in orbit around a binary asteroid. The ship contains an experimental quantum device, lost while en route to a research colony on Europa.

However, once word of the crew’s discovery gets out, they soon realize that ownership of this technology could fundamentally change the balance of power within the colonized worlds, and they now find themselves at the very nexus of a system-wide conflict.

Their fight for survival plays out across the solar system, from the mining outposts of the asteroid belt to the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, and from the great Martian city of Jezero to the irradiated wastelands on Earth.

There were a lot of repetitions of words and plot devices in this series. Overall it read like a self published book that didn't have an editor. It had potential to be much better. As for the repetitive parts, three stood out. Number one, all plasma weapon fire is "incandescent", nearly everything in the cave refuge was "hacked out" and this book needs a concussion protocol because people were getting knocked out left and right. The main character would probably have TBI if it was real life. I've never read so many waking up scenes.

All that aside, it was a good series. It just needed some polishing. I liked the main characters for the most part, especially Cyrus. The baddies were bad without going overboard. Lastly, there was some push pull and thought provocation applying things in the book to current events. That's the best thing SF does so I feel that achievement forgives the rough edges. Definitely give it a try, especially if you want to read about adults in space instead of teens coming of age in space.
