Good in parts, but the relationship was the weakest aspect
I wanted to like this book more. I enjoyed some aspects a lot. The football (soccer) parts were good, although I'm not really a fan and don't know a whole lot. The family aspects were also good. The relationship was probably the worst part of the book. I found myself rolling my eyes quite a few times due to all the miscommunication and lack of communication and jumping to conclusions, as another reviewer noted. And like that same reviewer, I didn't find the American purely American. Some of the things she said and did weren't really very American. I guess Jess rubbed off on her, but I still can't totally excuse the author for that. I listened to the audiobook. The narrator was good and made the story engaging to listen to, but the narrator couldn't fix the story itself, sadly.
