About this audiobook

Surviving the blast is only the beginning...

Dakota Sloane, a tough-as-nails former foster kid, has spent her life running from the past. Logan Garcia, a man haunted by secrets, has only one goal: to drink himself into oblivion.

They're two strangers in a bar - until the news reports nuclear bombs in New York City and Washington, D.C. Fearing Miami may be next, Dakota's first thought is to grab her little sister - still trapped in the system - and get the hell out of Dodge.

Then the world explodes. As buildings collapse and fires rage, utter chaos erupts. Trapped in the burning city, Logan and Dakota have less than 10 minutes to seek shelter before the lethal cloud of fallout descends.

But Dakota's sister is still out there. To rescue her, Dakota will need Logan's help, but can she trust him? And how far is she willing to go to save the only family she has left?

Point of Impact is an apocalyptic survival thriller exploring what could happen if terrorists successfully executed a coordinated nuclear attack on the United States, told from the perspectives of regular people determined to survive.

I was reading the Edge of Collapse series by K.Stone but needed a break so I dove into *this* one instead, and I'm just as happy with this one as I am with the other.

Being available on Everand as an audiobook is fantastic and probably the main reason I subbed to Everand.

This book follows a 19yo girl named Dakota who's trying to work her way up to gaining custody of her younger sister who's with a foster family. The two come from a troubled past that's alluded to and briefly touched on throughout the book.

The trepidations of Dakota's life is interrupted when the US is hit with a nuclear attack, with various cities, including Miami, being hit.

Dakota's intention now is to find her sister and get out of the fallout zone.

The prose is lovely and easy to listen to/read. The characters are compelling and thought out. The circumstances are dire and realistic feeling, and it left me wanting to pick up the next book.

I think my only mild ick is the fact that Dakota, the 19yo, seems to be the smartest person in the room. She was educated specifically in nuclear disaster earlier in her life, but the fact that she's *always* the smartest person in the room, and the toughest, is a bit irksome to me, because, as we all know, 19yos are dumb. Even the smart ones are dumb. I think I'd like her more if she was older with all this knowledge, but at 19 its the most unbelievable aspect of the book.

I'm still enjoying it and will be grabbing up the next book!

The Edge of Collapse series was very good, but this story seems to be following a similar set up with similar characters, and so similar, I really can’t bring myself to finish listening to this first book, even with only 36 minutes left. It’s just agonizing… the internal monologues are ridiculously long and tedious, at times repetitive. The main characters have a dark troubling past… feelings of fear, guilt, etc. but not quite revealing, only hinting at what their personal traumas were. Just exhausting, I found myself fast forwarding through so much of this. Just not my cup of tea.

No knocks on the narrator, she’s actually excellent, and one of the reasons I decided to listen to this book.
