About this audiobook

The New York Times bestselling authors return with a chilling thriller set on an isolated island off the Oregon coast. A group of women with extraordinary gifts will need to face evil…before it returns to burn their refuge to the ground.

The note pinned to the dead body found on the remote beach has no name, just Ravinia Rutledge’s phone number and the words “Next of Kin.” Ravinia insists she doesn’t recognize the man on the mortuary slab, but she suspects Detective Nev Rhodes doesn’t believe her. He can tell that she’s one of them—the Siren Song women.

Five years after moving away from The Colony, Ravinia has carved out a life as a private investigator whose specialty is helping others locate their missing loved ones. Yet sometimes, it’s better if the missing are never found. “Good Time Charlie” is the name given to a monster from her past, a man whom she and her sisters hoped was gone forever. But the dead man on the beach is a sign that Charlie has merely been waiting, preparing to fulfill his mission to rid the world of the Siren Song women—and anyone else who gets in his way.

Rhodes has his own reasons for being fascinated with The Colony and its surroundings—a place marked by unexplained deaths and tragedies. Rhodes plays by the rules, but there are forces at work here that defy notions of law and order. And despite Ravinia’s reluctance to team up with Nev, it’s the only way to stop an adversary determined to see that each and every member of The Colony will die at his hands . . .

“The action picks up and builds to a fiery conclusion.” –Publishers Weekly

Wicked Dreams by Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush Wicked #5Twisted tale, torment, dysfunctional family, torture, fire, death and so much more were found in this, the probable finale, of a five-book series that began in 2009. That I had not read any of the previous books made this a hard and rather confusing slog as I tried to figure out who the characters were, how they were connected, and what was going on. Paranormal abilities ran in the Rutledge offspring but not having read the four previous books…even those were a bit hard to figure out. I have to say that the characters were difficult to warm to, the various segments of the story didn’t always seem to jive, I had trouble seeing what Nev and Ravinia would have in common if they do end up together, the baddies were rather horrible, and there were characters I needed to know more about. The part at the end of the book…two sections added on as almost addendums in a history of ‘the colony’ and a letter in a journal/diary did help put some pieces in order but…this was not my favorite book by this author, and I never hesitated to read her work. For me…this book didn’t work but my guess is that if someone has read and enjoyed the rest of the books in the series then this book will tie the series up in a big red bow. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.2-3 Stars

A dead body is discovered on a deserted beach with a note pinned to his lapel. On the note is a telephone number and the words ‘next of kin’. The number leads to private investigator Ravinia Rutledge who claims to not know the man but she does. And she knows his death can only mean danger not only for herself but for the Colony, a mysterious island haven for a group of women with mysterious powers.I requested Wicked Dreams by Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush because I have enjoyed books by both authors in the past. However, I didn’t realize it was actually the last in a connected series with a dizzying array of characters and references to past events meaning I spent much of the book feeling lost and not a little confused.Still, it was well-written and I enjoyed it enough to finish it. I have no doubt for those who have read the other books in the series, it makes for a satisfying ending to the story. But for those, like me who are entering thie story of the Colony just as it’s ending, you should know, this definitely cannot be read easily as a standalone.
