About this audiobook

“Pinter is in fine form with Hide Away. You’ll burn through the pages.” —David Baldacci

From the bestselling author of the Henry Parker series comes a page-turning thriller about a vigilante who’s desperate to protect her secrets—and bring a killer to justice.

On the surface, Rachel Marin is an ordinary single mother; on the inside, she’s a fierce, brilliant vigilante. After an unspeakable crime shatters her life, she changes her identity and moves to a small town in Illinois, hoping to spare her children from further trauma…or worse. But crime follows her everywhere.

When the former mayor winds up dead, Rachel can’t help but get involved. Where local detectives see suicide, she sees murder. They resent her for butting in—especially since she’s always one step ahead. But her investigative genius may be her undoing: the deeper she digs, the harder it is to keep her own secrets buried.

Her persistence makes her the target of both the cops and a killer. Meanwhile, the terrifying truth about her past threatens to come to light, and Rachel learns the hard way that she can’t trust anyone. Surrounded by danger, she must keep her steely resolve, protect her family, and stay one step ahead, or else she may become the next victim.

The death of her husband and subsequent release of his killer prompts Rachel Marin to start a new life both figuratively and literally. By day, Rachel seems a "normal" single mother, but at night she trains herself in vigilante tactics. Rachel finds it very hard to trust authority figures such as the police. She'd rather mete out her own justice to make sure that the bad things in life don't touch her, or her children, again. In this book, John Serrano starts to break down that barrier and Rachel's children find out more about what their mother is doing when she disappears downstairs every night.

One of the best thrillers I have read in a while. Certainly ranks at the top of other writers! Anxious to get into the next one.

Cleverly plotted story about Rachel Marin, a widow with two young children who suffered unknown trauma in her past and is living under an alias in a new town. Rachel hears of the death of a previous mayor she'd met and is immediately suspicious her death isn't the suicide it appears and finds herself crossing swords at every turn with the local police investigating the crime. The plot twist is quite clever at the end and there are some interesting characters along the way.

The only thing Rachel Marin was missing was a SuperWoman costume. This is one extraordinary woman, but as smart as she is stupidity shares her space. Why would any sane woman who has been traumatized beyond reason repeatedly put herself and her children in harm’s way?! Because she can and she does, over and over again. Dogged determination to right a wrong beyond what any reasonable person would do. And that my friends was the tipping point into unbelievable and unrealistic for me.My hope is that in the future installments of the Rachel Marin character she is drawn with a more overall intelligent perspective and allowed a modicum of normalcy. The mystery was well thought out while the details were overwhelming but informative. Sometimes contradictions work well and I think this was the case.I enjoyed the book and thank NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for a copy
