About this audiobook
For a mother, life comes down to a series of choices. To hold on…to let go…to forget…to forgive.… Which road will you take?
For eighteen years, Jude Farraday has put her children’s needs above her own, and it shows—her twins, Mia and Zach, are bright and happy teenagers. When Lexi Baill moves into their small, close-knit community, no one is more welcoming than Jude. Lexi, a former foster child with a dark past, quickly becomes Mia’s best friend. Then Zach falls in love with Lexi and the three become inseparable.
Jude does everything to keep her kids on track for college and out of harm’s way. It has always been easy—until senior year of high school tests them all. Nothing feels safe anymore; every time Mia and Zach leave the house, she worries about them.
On a hot summer’s night her worst fears are realized. One decision will change the course of their lives. In the blink of an eye, the Farraday family will be torn apart and Lexi will lose everything. In the years that follow, each must face the consequences of that single night and find a way to forget…or the courage to forgive.
Vivid, universal, and emotionally complex, Night Road raises profound questions about motherhood, identity, love, and forgiveness. It is a luminous, heartbreaking novel that captures both the exquisite pain of loss and the stunning power of hope. This is Kristin Hannah at her very best, telling an unforgettable story about the longing for family, the resilience of the human heart, and the courage it takes to forgive the people we love.
“A rich, multilayered reading experience, and an easy recommendation for book clubs.” —Library Journal (starred review)
“You cannot read Night Road and not be affected by the story and the characters. The total impact of the book will stay with you for days to come after it is finished.” —The Huffington Post

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Ugh. Schmaltzy. Love Kristen Hannah’s other books. Don’t bother with this one.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Honestly, I’m being generous. Not sure what all the hype was about. The book was really slow to start, it was like a mediocre YA novel for the first half. I almost gave up so many times but then thought “things have to get more interesting”… they did, but not enough to give anything more than 3 stars. Narration was ok but Mia’s voice - OMG she sounds like a 6-year old…

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Such a disappointment from Kristen Hannah. I’ve thoroughly been captivated by all other novels I’ve read, but Night Road was nauseatingly predictable from the very beginning.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Definitely in the vein of Jodi Picoult, but a better framing; instead of choosing to "resolve" an impossible situation by twisting the plot, as Picoult has, Hannah chooses to paint a portrait of what tragedy can do to a family. Not normally the type of book I'd choose to read, but if you like this sort of thing it's fairly well done.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Sappy sappy book. I’m not a fan and cannot believe it was written by the same person who wrote The Great Alone.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Mia's character was underdeveloped and not really a believable 18 year old, more like a 7 year old mentality... it made it difficult to become invested in her which made the story fall flat for me. I also feel like the romance with Zach is underdeveloped, just not a great book from a usually pretty great author.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The story is predictable and the main character got to be frustrating. I went in with high hopes as I loved The Nightingale.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5The writing and description was very vivid, however it was not my cup of tea.
The first part of the book spent ages warming up and could have been concluded sooner, the second part of the book was just rife with description and not very much really happened.
All in all, boring, boring, boring.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5She's died it again. Kristen Hannah mines the truth about grief and loss and love .... "love is sometimes an act of will ".... this truth has saved me in the eight years since I lost my daughter and 18 months since love lost a son too Reading this was cathartic and heartbreaking and mostly affirming that thing you think you can't live through, you can and you can find joy in walking through the pain of it all. This is a lovely gift to those who greave.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It was perfect. Completely predictable, but still heartwarming and hard to put down. I can always count on K.H.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great story! Such a wonderful book!! I would very much recommend this one!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Absolutely well written, had me wanting more the whole way through!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If you like dramas around each corner, then for you it's a must read. Prepare to tackle deaths, hatred, abandonement, resentment déep love and forgiveness. With a turmoil of emotions, this story will keep your eyes sad and watery throughout.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I'm a fan now Kristin Hanna. This book is one of her best.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Just read it. I think everyone could learn something about mental health from this book if you look at it from the right vantage point
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A really sad story of mourning, grief, the pain of losing a daughter. I cried out almost the whole book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book captivated me. Engulfed me. I don’t think a book has evoked the emotion of sadness, despair, and hope as much as this one did.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I am UNDONE! Kristin Hannah has a way of doing that to her readers. She is a master at character development. And, no matter how disturbing a person’s behavior, she causes you to understand their frailty and, thus, to pull for their humanity. A mother’s love is complex and, inevitably, tied to her own childhood. This book accentuates the highs and lows that come with parenting. Tragedy does that. No one puts in written form better than Kristin Hannah.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This beautifully well written book will grab you from the very beginning...this story is about love, resilience, and forgiveness.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very good book - tackled tough subject with honest emotions. Maybe wrapped it all up to tidily.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The character development! It was done very well. I recommend it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Bittersweet read about youthful innocence and consequences, while a mother's love is tested.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5My first read by this author and definitely not my last. Thought provoking with characters you empathise with which keeps you gripped
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Oh wow, this is such a wonderful book. Forgiveness, loss and hope, grieve, were portrayed in a honest way. I just couldn't put it down!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I’m not sure why the author spent so much time on the mother, when there were so many more compelling characters grief I would have liked to explore. It gets better toward the end it’s a slow read for sure
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was very well written. Just so sad.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Emotional roller coaster! Wow. This book captured my full attention. Might be replacing Firefly Lane as my favorite Kristin Hannah book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a very sensitive book. I was moved to tears in many parts. It was very true to what can happen to a family. Loved the ending.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Okay. Not as good as four winds. Clearly author has never been around a 5 year old child. Gracie was more like 10.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So emotional! Grab a box of Kleenex and make a list of every young person that needs to hear this.
