About this audiobook

Samuel was back. It seemed unfair to be blindsided. And in church no less.

Shouldn’t there be a commandment about that? Thou shalt not step foot inside thy ex’s place of worship.

Julia Monroe has just turned forty and has high hopes for a fresh start after the last decade of her life abruptly left her a young widow and a single mom. With both her boys off to college, she can finally focus on expanding her New Orleans–based cleaning business. Julia is ready for
new beginnings—but God has other plans. Samuel Reed, the ruggedly handsome Green Beret who shattered her heart over twenty years ago, has returned to town and is the kind of distraction she never saw coming.

After their first interaction in years leaves her mind spinning and her emotions out of control, Julia knows she needs to avoid him if she wants any chance of preventing history from repeating itself, but her meddling best friend keeps throwing them together. And now it seems inevitable
that the man who was hard to forget might just be impossible to resist.

I really liked Julia's take on things and the way she and the author expressed her feelings. Her refusal to forgive was annoying, but I guess that was what the story hinged on.

I came to love this book by Rebekah Millet. I have followed her on Instagram for quite awhile and have found her to be a very sweet person. When I saw the audio version of her new book was available on Everand, I had to listen. I didn't know much about it going in, except I think I had heard it was about an older female main character.

I don't know exactly how this would be classified. Maybe just contemporary, Christian romance. It had humorous parts, but I don't feel like it was a romcom. It had themes of faith, but I didn't feel like I was being preached at. It was more about the characters' journey past and present and how that related to their belief system. That wasn't my favorite parts, but I could understand them.

I just loved the characters. I felt they were well written and above that, well read. I really enjoyed the narrator for this audiobook. I think she captured the essence of the author's words and feelings well.

I also enjoyed the New Orleans flavor that this story contains.

5+ stars!! Listened via Scribd audiobook. Narrated by Susan Bennett. Absolutely STELLAR narration!!!

If you’re going to write a hilarious, sincere, real-life novel with reflections of difficult times, AND the beauty of love, this is how you do it!! The fact that this is Rebekah Millet’s debut is just phenomenal to me. I cannot wait for the rest of the series. If I ever wrote a book, this is just the type I would aspire to write.

I want to be besties with Julie Monroe. She cracked me up so many times as a woman of 40+. Her level of snark and sarcasm is hysterical. She gets me! Her love for her sons, fierce. Her submission to God, loyal. She makes mistakes, recognizes them, and seeks the Lord’s direction.

Samuel is a man of many mistakes who came to know the Lord. He’s one we can learn so much from. God bestowed grace upon him and He will do the same for anyone who asks. He is a God of immense grace and blessings.

I cannot wait for Kate’s story because these characters and their community feel like friends and neighbours that I don’t want to leave.

This novel is the perfect recipe of so many ingredients: love, humour, friendship, grief, chemistry, mistakes, grace, forgiveness, overcoming, hope, dreams, and so much more. I laughed out loud so many times during this book. I need to buy my own copy and highlight the living daylights out of it!! I will be pre-ordering anything this author puts out and I hereby volunteer to be an advanced reader for her books in the future. The sooner I get the books into my hands, the better!

    OUT. OF. THE. PARK. ?
