About this audiobook

What are the spiritual gifts? Do all Christians have them? Have the miraculous gifts ceased? The topic of spiritual gifts is often a point of contention among Christians. In Spiritual Gifts: What They Are and Why They Matter, Dr. Thomas R. Schreiner, a leading New Testament scholar, answers these questions. Schreiner shares his personal experience related to spiritual gifts, but more importantly, he unpacks what the Bible has to say about them. In doing so, he brings a spirit of humility and charity, reminding us that though spiritual gifts are important, we can have unity in Christ even where we disagree.

Schreiner offers a helpful and nuanced cessationist position on the spiritual gifts. He argues that because the church is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, we should not expect such foundational gifts today. However, there are many other gifts that the Spirit gives to mark out his work of new creation in our midst.

A generous, collegial yet robust apologetic for cessationism. Quite convincing.

Well written book with very well thought out points. I felt like Schreiner was sharing his journey to what he believes with us and not being argumentative or pushy. This would be a great book for small groups to read and discuss. I loved how he laid out his point of view with research, facts and loads of scripture. I recommend this book to anyone learning about spiritual gifts and how they affect us today.
