About this audiobook

Increasingly astronomers recognize that if the cosmos had not unfolded exactly as it did, humanity would not, could not, exist. Yet these researchers-along with countless ordinary folks-resist belief in the biblical Creator. Why? They say a loving God would have made a better home for us, one without trouble and tragedy. In Why the Universe Is the Way It Is, Hugh Ross draws from his depth of study in both science and Scripture to explain how the universe's design fulfills several distinct purposes. He also reveals God's surpassing love and ultimate purposes for each individual.

Why the Universe Is the Way It Is will interest anyone who wonders where and how the universe came to be, what or who is responsible for it, why we are here, or how and when the universe ends. Far from leaving the listener at this philosophical jumping-off point, Ross builds toward answering the big question of human destiny and the specific question of each listener's personal destiny.

This is an amazing book. Hugh Ross and his reasons.org web (and team) are not to be missed. Now obviously I’m biased—so let me get that ‘problem’ out in the open. I’m a Christian and soOOooo…I suppose that makes me old fashioned and my nose and brain stuck in some ‘forbidden’ ancient ‘knowledge’ back some 2,000 years ago and because of the Dead Sea Scrolls…I therefore can not be trusted nor can I think correctly…because some mythical Spirit has taken a melon-baller and scraped out the glutinous mass from my brain. Right? Well then you have to put Hugh Ross also in that same ‘bucket’ (and so too many others)! It is becoming totally apparent that although I am a Christian I also see that via Hugh Ross’s material and by his abilities (to explain) the chance occurrence of this planet and too us, is no longer a possibility. And frankly anyone regardless of their worldview (and profession) who is ‘old-fashioned’ (Bible belief or not) can not mathematically turn the crank on the cosmic lottery-machine and get the results that we now KNOW we must have. There are too many fine-tuned constants and/or factors that must be in place and functioning…and also too many arranged ‘chained-events’ that have to be at a certain place and at a certain time; all lined up or…you’re not going to be reading this cause you would not be. There just is not enough time in the 13.7 billion years in which time, space, matter, and energy ‘began’ to allow all these ‘things’ to be lined up or to even be here…! In order to prove this mathematically just for those things needing to be lined-up (chained-events) Hugh Ross has given a list of about 120 and it is easy to understand that they need an arrangement that is specific. In order to determine the possibility of items that can be arranged in different ways is called a factorial computation. And it is simply 120X119X118X117X…etc. So what is 120 factorial? Well, lucky for us (hmmmmm? That’s an incorrect statement…it is not ‘luck’) if one types “120!” into the search window of Google one finds this: “6.68950291 X 10^198”. That is the number (let me round down) 6 with 198 zeros. And that number is many times over the estimated: “number of hydrogen atoms in the universe” (put the quote into Google)…which is estimated to be 3X10^79. Two things (at least) are concluded. One: even with padding the numbers in favor of ‘wanting’ chance…we are deliberately created because chance needs more time; and Two: with evolution demanding massive lengths of time to allow for undirected change…it is impossible that undirected change can be allowed for there is not enough time even if a major change were to be accomplished every second. Get the fine-tuned requirements (such as speed of light or Planks constant or Epsilon, or Omega…etc off by just a slight amount OR have the arrangement of these occur incorrectly or at the wrong time or at the wrong place (planet) then NO LIFE. We do not need the Bible to allow for a Creator (the One and Only God!) OUCH (for all atheists)!!! If we do not allow for God (but rather hang onto chance) then we can not be here to have this discussion about whether God is or is not…for we are NOT. Occam’s Razor (look it up) states that we should never look for a complicated ‘path’ (an explanation) to explain away the obvious and logical other conclusion (in other words one needs to remove biases). That does not mean we can not ‘look’ and (unfortunately for atheists) and to use a verse from the Bible “test everything and hold onto the good”…but at some point one needs to know what the truth is and go with it…despite prejudices against a Creator God. Wherever the Truth may lead it is that way we must go…or you are not logical nor are you scientific! SO am I still old-fashioned in your opinion??
