About this audiobook
The New York Times bestselling author of Darwin’s Doubt presents groundbreaking scientific evidence of the existence of God, based on breakthroughs in physics, cosmology, and biology.
Beginning in the late 19th century, many intellectuals began to insist that scientific knowledge conflicts with traditional theistic belief—that science and belief in God are “at war.” Philosopher of science Stephen Meyer challenges this view by examining three scientific discoveries with decidedly theistic implications. Building on the case for the intelligent design of life that he developed in Signature in the Cell and Darwin’s Doubt, Meyer demonstrates how discoveries in cosmology and physics coupled with those in biology help to establish the identity of the designing intelligence behind life and the universe.
Meyer argues that theism — with its affirmation of a transcendent, intelligent and active creator — best explains the evidence we have concerning biological and cosmological origins. Previously Meyer refrained from attempting to answer questions about “who” might have designed life. Now he provides an evidence-based answer to perhaps the ultimate mystery of the universe. In so doing, he reveals a stunning conclusion: the data support not just the existence of an intelligent designer of some kind—but the existence of a personal God.

Readers find this title to be a masterpiece, with fantastic writing and excellent arguments. The book provides a legitimate scientific take on the existence of God, backed by exhaustive scientific evidence. It also offers unique insights and a brief history of science. While some may find the scientific jargon hard to grasp, laymen can still get a lot out of it. Overall, this book is an awesome, well-written wealth of insight.

Best well-rounded, sound, and fair look at the leading scientific evidence for naturalism and theism. Meyer makes clear the assertion that science and theism are not two mutually exclusive fields by positing thorough, clear, and unbiased evidence. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

This is a legitimate scientific take on the existence of god. The author obviously can’t guarantee god exists but he shows cogent arguments that point to theism. There is a ton of scientific jargon in this book that is hard to grasp for the scientifically uninitiated but laymen can still get a lot out of it. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

I loved it. This book is a masterpiece.
I've fallen out of the habit of writing reviews for books I read.
After finishing this book, I knew I absolutely had to write a review about it because of the enthusiasm I have for it.
The science is hard, the reasoning is excellent, and the research is immense.
Not only does he give exhaustive scientific evidence for the existence of God at the most scholarly level (He's a PhD in Philosophy from Cambridge), he also gives you a brief history of science itself with unique insights (unique insights come naturally when you're swimming against the tide of the pervasive materialist thought amongst science popularizers of our day).
Most of the criticisms I expect will be of the ad hominem variety, and some may find his detailed scientific and technical explanations too much--but he is writing this book for those of the highest level of intellect AND the layman (when concepts got too complicated, he uses analogies that are easy enough for anyone to understand).
It is a long read, but the length is necessary in order to express his arguments thoroughly. The goal is to establish his three arguments for God from recent discoveries in cosmology, physics and biochemistry. He then impressively tackles every (and I mean EVERY) major counterargument of his assertions to test the resilience of the theories.
The Return of the God Hypothesis may be the best book defending the existence of God from a scientific standpoint ever written.
I'm sure its contents will resonate with me for years to come.1 person found this helpful

Well done!
My only critique would be my impression that the author did not prioritize more space to "steel-man" his arguments. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

This was a most difficult book to read but I found the correlation between the creation of the universe and explanations of its existence through scientific explanations and faith based thought extremely interesting.
The book, though some will think slow and divisive, is actually something to ponder.
Even science itself has begun to believe that there's more to the creation than mathematical formulas.
Certainly, it is a book to be read and reread.
Thank you NetGalley, publisher and author for the opportunity to read and review the e-ARC. It took much longer than anticipated, it's quite deep.
