Amy Abrams doesn't do love. Nor does she do emotional attachments, unless you count the connection she has with designer handbags. This is book #2 of the Sons of Templar MC Series by Anne Malcolm.
Brock & Amy's story.
Disregard both of the other reviews, they are for a completely different book/series/author with the same title.... They obviously didn't actually listen to this book or they would have known that. There are NO dragons, or anything supernatural whatsoever in this story. It is a motorcycle club romance.... Worth checking out if you like those. I like that the intimate scenes don't stretch on forever and are more realistic (i.e. the characters don't have time for inner monologues that go on for paragraphs while in the middle of sex, thus making you think they are obviously not doing something right if they have time for all that thinking), even if there are a LOT of them in each book. Not what I would consider a truly dark MC series yet, kinda fluffy compared to others I have read. Some mild torture, etc... Future books look darker however. But a decent listen, if you like the darker, grittier types of romance that are not a cakewalk of happiness. There is death, and heartbreak. If you only like the unrealistic happy stories where everything always works out for all characters, and no one ever dies or gets hurt then these books are not for you.

Firestorm is the tenth book in the Dark Kings series. The story takes place in various areas of Scotland. It also means that most of the Kings including Dimitri speaks with a Scottish accent. It is verra, verra good and makes his character a bit more swoon-worthy. The Kings are dragons that existed on Earth before mankind and through poor judgement on their part swore to provide protection for humankind. I say poor judgement because the humans procreated and eventually turned against the dragons. I found that I was emotionally impacted in the scenes where I learned more of how the humans turned on the dragons. It really helped me to understand how the Kings warred within themselves about their commitment to the humans. Being dragons though they cannot be anything other than honorable.Generally, when reading a book with dragons they are portrayed as logical with little emotion. Even when they are shape-shifters the characters are logical and emotionally closed off until they find their mate. It was not the case in this story. Dimitri has heart. He is very passionate about his dragons, his bond to the Kings, and protecting the Kings secrets. From the start, he is a strong-willed, feels deeply, and has a great capacity for love. He just does not feel this way towards humans. I loved, loved, loved this aspect of the story. I adore that as a dragon shapeshifter he is not written as a stereotypical dragon.Books that have archeological aspects always draw my interest. Faith Reynolds has unearthed an actual dragon skeleton and it is creating tension with the public. How exciting would that be in real life? I would be over the moon! Her character was what I would expect for an archeologist. Completely focused on the excavation and a bit nutty-professor about everything else. I liked how she had an assistant to ground her character. I think if she was written where she could do everything then the romance aspect would have not been so intense. Her absent mindedness made her interest in Dimitri more visceral because it was out of character for her.Now you are asking me, why was the romance intense aren’t you?? Oh my, oh my there were sexy times, but I am getting ahead of myself here. Dimitri exudes strength and virility but he has a thing about humans, as in I will protect you but want nothing to do with you. Faith is usually so focused on her work that she notices no one. They both notice each other from the start but he erects walls and she is coy about her interest. I loved being in their heads! She watched him but saw no signs of his interest and played it cool. All the while she was twisted up in want in her head. He did everything he could to deny the attraction and was shut off as possible to her. Which leads to a nice smoldering romance element that straight-up ignited into a passionate fire.This is not a story that just surrounds a romance element. There is an entire plot that appears to have carried through from the start of this series. The Kings have enemies that wish to destroy them. There are key players in this power struggle who have long laid plans to bring about the destruction of either the humans, the dragons or anyone who is in their way to total control. I loved the story about Dimitri and Faith but it is the other characters and plot that drive me to want to read the entire series. A really well-written and paced story where the plot and sub-plots are tied together nicely but keeps your interest engaged so that you will come back for more. I highly recommend this story to lovers of dragons, romance, or fantasy.This review is based on a complimentary book I received from NetGalley. It is an honest and voluntary review. Firestorm by Donna GrantDark Kings #10Dragon bones found in a cave are just the hook at the beginning of this fast paced story. With dark forces wanting to get their hands on the bones and existing dragons wanting the bones to disappear a lot is at stake. Add in snippets from other series all linked to the Dark Kings series and I came away wanting to begin at the beginning with books unread and read them all. I was not lost and this book does stand on its own but I felt that if I had read the previous books and the other series linked to it I would have seen more and been able to understand a bit more at some points in the story. Dmitri, King of the White Dragons, is sent by his king to Fair Isle to deal with the dragon bones. They must disappear and he is chosen to take care of the issue. Little did he know going in that he would find a smart, strong, and sensual woman, Faith Reynolds, who would end up being his mate. With evil magic and Dark Fae to contend with, bones to save, a love undying to create and a mystery still unsolved this book had a lot going on. I enjoyed the relationship between Dmitri and Faith and really want to know who her father might be (maybe a dragon?) and wonder how that will play into the next book. I also wonder what will happen with other characters mentioned in the book even though I have just heard of them for the first time. I hope that a solution will be found for the dragons and that their King of Kings will find a HEA someday. I can almost see this as a TV series…wonder who I would sign for actors and actresses to play the parts… Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC. This is my honest review. 4 Stars
