About this audiobook
Crafting smash hits with Van Halen, The Doobie Brothers, Nicolette Larson, and Van Morrison, legendary music producer Ted Templeman changed the course of rock history
This autobiography (as told to Greg Renoff) recounts Templeman's remarkable life from child jazz phenom in Santa Cruz, California, in the 1950s to Grammy-winning music executive during the '70s and '80s. Along the way, Ted details his late '60s stint as an unlikely star with the sunshine pop outfit Harpers Bizarre and his grind-it-out days as a Warner Bros. tape listener, including the life-altering moment that launched his career as a producer: his discovery of the Doobie Brothers.
Ted Templeman: A Platinum Producer's Life in Music takes us into the studio sessions of No. 1 hits like "Black Water" by the Doobie Brothers and "Jump" by Van Halen, as Ted recounts memories and the behind-the-scene dramas that engulfed both massively successful acts. Throughout, Ted also reveals the inner workings of his professional and personal relationships with some of the most talented and successful recording artists in history, including Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Eric Clapton, Lowell George, Sammy Hagar, Linda Ronstadt, David Lee Roth, and Carly Simon.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I've been in deep mourning since Eddie's passing. For some reason, it hit me hard. So, I went down the rabbit hole on youtube and began to learn so much about his life which lead me to some books, Van Halen Rising being one. Ted Templeman's book was on the list after seeing videos of interviews of engineers, etc. from Sunset Sound. I was unaware that Greg had written this book as well. I am blown away by both books! Being a musician myself since the 70s and spending time in many a studio, this was such a wonderful inside look into what really goes on in the upper levels of the music industry. It's basically the same just more money involved. Ted's life is undeniably charmed! I'm so thrilled you were able to document his adventures. He lived through the most epic decades of the ever transforming music business and worked with legendary artists. Thank you both for putting Ted's naked truth out there for us to learn from. My mom headed the theatre dept. at T.U. and was a teacher up until the day she died, so I can appreciate the sentiment Greg. I hope Ted is happy and healthy and still living his dream! xo

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So interesting if you’re drawn to how music is created and how acts are chosen. A fantastic revelation about how it all works.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A fantastic read. Rather than hoarding praise for himself, Templeman is quick to credit the like of Van Halen, Van Morrison, The Doobie Brothers, etc for his run as one of the top record producers on his era.
