About this audiobook
Half-elf Samantha Cosse may have gotten kicked out of the Order of Diviners, but she's still good at finding things, which is why she just opened her own private investigation agency.
Paen is one of Sam's first clients and the only one to set her elf senses tingling, which makes it pretty much impossible to keep their relationship on a professional level. Sam is convinced that she is Paen's Beloved-the woman who can give him back his soul . . . whether he wants it or not.
Katie MacAlister
Growing up in a family where a weekly visit to the library was a given, Katie MacAlister spent much of her time with her nose buried in a book. When she was contracted to write a nonfiction book about software, her editor refused to allow her to include witty dialogue or love scenes, so Katie swiftly resolved to switch to fiction, in which she could indulge in world building, tormenting her characters, and falling madly in love with all her heroes. Her novels have been translated into numerous languages, been recorded as audiobooks, received several awards, and are regulars on the New York Times, USA TODAY, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. She also writes for the young adult audience as Katie Maxwell. Katie lives in the Pacific Northwest. You can visit her website at KatieMacAlister.com.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Continuing with fun vampires...always a lot of laughs.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really liked the plot - which has some nice twists - and the romance itself, as well as the other characters. Clare especially stands out as the flower munching faery in denial. This is Katie MacAlister at her best, so if you like her type of humor, don't miss this book.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I don't know but I've never been able to get into Katie McAlister's books. I had this on the shelf though so thought I'd give it another try.
It just seems a bit silly. I suppose at base that's what it is. The sense of humour in her books doesn't match mine so rather than enjoying it, I find it painful.
There was also way too much "I won't do that to you" with no explaination of why so when the female protagonist pushed and became the 'Beloved' and then turned immortal she was surprised by consequences that she really should have been told about before.
Just not my style in the end. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Pretty much a re-writing of the Malese Falcon with vampires, half-elves and a modern setting. It's quite a fun story though with Paen the dark one, soulless and immortal who has to find a statue so his mother will keep her soul. He employs Samantha Cosse, a half-elf, to try to find the statue. Sam is good at finding things so she might be perfect. At the same time she has a commission to find a missing book.Paen and Sam are attracted but can they survive the relationship without killing each other. Are they destined for each other or will they tear each other apart. There are times when it's a bit predictable but there are some very funny moments that more than make up for the predictability.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Paen Scott was, if not happy, at least content with his life as a dark one. Determined to find a way to live without the necessity of finding a "Beloved" his research completed him, or so he thought. When Finn and Paen Scott seek out half-elf Samantha Cross to help locate an ancient monkey statue it is a boon to her new investigative agency. The thing is, whenever she gets close to the enigmatic Paen Scott her libido goes into overdrive and business is the last thing on her mind. Will a Master of the Night Dark One and his sun loving unwanted half-elf Beloved be able to get past the bad guys to find the statue and rescue Paen's mother's soul? You have to read to find out :-)Like all of Katie MacAlister's stories Even Vampires Get the Blues was equal parts humor, adventure and romance. Although I still prefer her Aisling Grey novels to her vampire ones I certainly do find them entertaining and lively, quite likely to leave you with a smile on your face at the end. If you're looking for campy romances like Mary Janice Davidson's without the attitude I would certainly suggest these Beloved books.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Cute addition to MacAlister's vampire mythology. This one finds a half elf detective contracted by a Dark One who doesn't want a beloved and finds that she is his. It includes a mystery involving finding out where an ancient statue is in order to save a soul.
