About this audiobook
Trail hand, Deke Northrup, is one mean spit in the eye. Before long, he's made enemies of all his men. When Mac learns that Northrup is planning to double-cross the herd's owner, he stands up to the trail boss and his henchman. He might be outgunned and outnumbered, but Mac's ready to serve up some blazing frontier justice-with a healthy helping of vengeance . . .

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Title: The Chuckwagon Trail (Chuckwagon Trail series #1)Author: William W. Johnstone with J. A. JohnstonePages: 384Year: 2018Publisher: PinnacleMy rating: 5 out of 5 stars.Dewey McKenzie lives in New Orleans, and he has set his sights on marrying the banker’s daughter. One night when he sneaks into her room in hopes of proposing and eloping, he is surprised by another voice he hears talking to the girl’s father. What starts out as a promising night and future, quickly spirals out of control when the father discovers him in his daughter’s bedroom! Now, Dewey “Mac” McKenzie is on the run. Why? The father is found brutally murdered by Mac’s knife! Mac is racing against time and the authorities and must find a route of escape along with Evangeline if possible. But will she go with him now that her father is dead? Does she even know? Mac is a young man with the skills of a cowboy but nothing that could keep Evangeline in the style she is accustomed to living. Now, on his way out of New Orleans, without his gear, money or anything else, Mac happens upon wagon driver who helps him get away from his pursuers. Through many interesting interactions readers will enjoy traveling with Mac as he signs on to be a chuckwagon cook in order to get lost in the sea of the wilderness on a trail drive. The other characters Mac meets are interesting and unique, some are helpful to him and others have nefarious motivations that may cause him harm.I found the novel very easy to get lost in and enjoyed the tale from start to finish. The second book in the series is Die by the Gun with a third book due out soon in 2020 titled, Hill of Beans. Enjoy the flavor of the old west by the Johnstone authors as they serve up danger with a flair, guaranteeing hours of adventure!Note: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility.
