About this audiobook
Desperate for a cure, Jenn and her husband send Josh to a Christian conversion therapy camp recommended by their trusted pastor. Jenn is unwavering in her faith that Josh can be transformed by the grace of God. But as the story unfolds, her husband, son, and daughters seem to be questioning her deepest values, threatening irreparable damage to the tight-knit Henderson family.
Author Laila Ibrahim tackles a subject directly out of the headlines in Living Right, an intimate story about a mother's struggle to reconcile her religious beliefs with her son's sexual orientation. Living Right strips away the politics of gay rights to reveal what's really at stake in this ongoing conflict: family. As with her debut novel, Yellow Crocus, Ibrahim's second novel explores an intimate and sensitive topic with insight and compassion.
Laila Ibrahim
Laila Ibrahim spent much of her career as a preschool director, a birth doula, and a religious educator. That work, coupled with her education in developmental psychology and attachment theory, provided ample fodder for the story lines of her bestselling novels: Paper Wife, Mustard Seed, and Yellow Crocus. She’s a devout Unitarian Universalist, determined to do her part to add a little more love and justice to our beautiful and painful world. She lives with her wonderful wife, Rinda, and two other families in a small cohousing community in Berkeley, California. Her young adult children are her pride and joy. Laila is blessed to be working full-time as a novelist. When she isn’t writing, she likes to take walks with friends, do jigsaw puzzles, play games, work in the garden, travel, cook, and eat all kinds of delicious food. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Well written. The mother was getting on my nerves... This is how I know the book is good. I actually disliked a character who seems to have a nice personality.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book made me so angry!!
I have a daughter in a same sex relationship and to hear over and over how wrong that is, omg!!!! I just want my girl to be happy and she is , so I'm happy.
The main character (the mother) did realise she was the one who needed to change, not her gay son. Hard to hear some of this book. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Did not enjoy the narrator but the story is enlightening. Hard to believe these attitudes still exist and proud that Canada has outlawed conversion therapy.
