About this audiobook

A Stonewall Honor Book · A New York Times and Indie bestseller!

“A bighearted, deeply vulnerable, love-bubbly tumble through self-discovery.” —Casey McQuiston, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling I Kissed Shara Wheeler

With humor and insight, #1 New York Times bestseller Becky Albertalli explores the nuances of sexuality, identity, and friendship in this timely new novel.

Imogen Scott may be hopelessly heterosexual, but she’s got the World’s Greatest Ally title locked down.

She's never missed a Pride Alliance meeting. She knows more about queer media discourse than her very queer little sister. She even has two queer best friends. There's Gretchen, a fellow high school senior, who helps keep Imogen's biases in check. And then there's Lili—newly out and newly thriving with a cool new squad of queer college friends.

Imogen's thrilled for Lili. Any ally would be. And now that she's finally visiting Lili on campus, she's bringing her ally A game. Any support Lili needs, Imogen's all in.

Even if that means bending the truth, just a little.

Like when Lili drops a tiny queer bombshell: She's told all her college friends that Imogen and Lili used to date. And none of them know that Imogen is a raging hetero—not even Lili’s best friend, Tessa.

Of course, the more time Imogen spends with chaotic, freckle-faced Tessa, the more she starts to wonder if her truth was ever all that straight to begin with. . . .

Editor's Note

Heartfelt…

In a new YA story by Albertalli (“Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda”), Imogen, a proud LGBTQ+ ally, visits her friend Lili at college, where she discovers Lili has told everyone Imogen is her bisexual ex. Even more confusing, Imogen starts to doubt her own straight identity after meeting Lili’s charismatic roommate, Tessa. A heartfelt story of sexual awakening and personal exploration, this coming-of-age romance is an authentic portrayal of how societal norms shape our identities — and the courage it takes to forge a new path.

Becky has been an auto-buy author for me since Simon vs The Homosapiens Agenda came out and made me feel seen as a queer person, then identifying as Bi, for the first time. So it wasn't a surprise for me that this one would hit home even more. I love Imogen, Tessa, Lili and Edith with all my heart and can't wait for the next book, hopefully in the same universe. So yeah, if you're searching for a sapphic romcom with sort of fake-dating and the best friends and cats and witty dialogue, as well as amazing non-binary representation and a Jewish MC and love interest, this is the book for you. ❤️

A rollercoaster of changing emotions in first half and a warm hug in the second.
Liked it in the end. Exactly what I needed today!

Lovley love story! I can really relate to the 'not realizing you're queer' thoughts and also the overthinking, although it sometimes got a bit annoying - but I guess that is what overthinking is most of the times. Great book!

I don’t usually read YA but I this book looked cute to me. I’m so glad I listened, I highly recommend, very appropriate for a younger audience, this would have been my favorite book at 13-16

This was very sweet and lighthearted. The author does a good job discussing current issues for younger generations when it comes to figuring out where you stand. I love the message, and my favorite character is Lily!

I cannot even describe how much I love this book. There were so many times when the characters took my breath away, or I found myself grinning at nothing as I drove my car or did the dishes. The prose and plot were masterful, and the characters are oh, so relatable. Absolutely check this book out if you've ever questioned your sexuality.

This was uber cute. But Gretchen was literally the worst. Granted, I'm sad for her experience. But that doesn't give her the right to determine who is or isn't Queer. she isn't the end all be all and her word isn't law. She is NOT a friend, and clearly Lily and Edith knew long before Imogen. Despite the hateful child! Imogen and Tessa were uber cute and I liked this.
