About this audiobook

Foxglove Manor would twist its way into your soul until one day it owned you, and it called to you, and it didn't cease haunting you until you came back.

In 1885, Adria Fontaine has been sent away from her home to recover goods her malevolent father pirated on the Great Lakes during the Civil War. Hoping to find freedom away from her father, Adria arrives at Foxglove Manor—a stone house on a cliff overlooking Lake Superior—but senses only wickedness hovering over the property. The mistress of Foxglove is an eccentric and seemingly cruel old woman who has filled her house with dangerous secrets, ones that may cost Adria her life.

Centuries later, Kailey Gibson takes on a position as a nurse's aide at a senior home in a renovated old stone manor. Abducted as a child, she has nothing but locked-up memories of secrets and death, overshadowed by the chilling threat from her kidnappers that they may return. When the residents of Foxglove start sharing stories of whispers in the night, hidden treasure, and a love willing to kill, it becomes clear this home is far from a haven.

As the sinister mysteries of Foxglove Manor haunt two women separated by time, they will have to risk it all to banish the past's demons—including their own.

The book itself is fantastic, as are all of Jaime Jo Wright's novels. However, I found myself almost taking off several stars because the narrator was just very hard to listen to. I hate to say it, but I do hope she uses someone else in the future!

Great book!!! Such an interesting story and characters. One of my top two faves of Jaime’s.

I listened to the audiobook, even though I have all her books, and I had to listen to it at 1.25 speed. The narrator spoke way too slowly. At 1.25, it sounded normal.

It is quite fitting that I am reading "On the Cliffs of Foxglove Manor " the week before All Hallow's Eve. Jaime Jo Wright is very good at sending chills up one's spine while reading her novels. One can faintly hear the eerie chords of an organ playing in the background while cold fingers of air move over your body. The desire to run is overwhelming even as you are rooted in place turning page after page of the book. I have read all of her books and hope to be reading them for a long time in the future. Her books are inspirational and God-glorifying.

Title: On the Cliffs of Foxglove ManorAuthor: Jaime Jo WrightPages: 362Year: 2021Publisher: Bethany House PublishersMy rating is 4 out of 5 stars. In 1885, Adria Fontaine is sent by her father to Foxglove Manor to recover from a suicide attempt and to be a companion to the manor’s owner, but he really wants her to find out where a Civil War Treasure is located. Her father is a shipping magnate, and his partner stole the treasure out from under him. Adria has no idea how to go about finding this treasure, but she certainly didn’t expect the cold and brusque owner of the home to provide no help. She also had no idea she would encounter a young girl named Lucy, or of a mysterious feeling of being watched from an unoccupied are of the manor. While talking to the old caretaker, he reveals a possible clue. She encounters Mr. Crayne and is attracted to him, but also cautious of his wavering moods and his frequent use of alcohol. He knows about the treasure she seeks but is unwilling to tell her its location. Can she find the treasure before her father’s deadline?Kailey Gibson arrives at Foxglove Manor in the present day. It is now a senior nursing home. She is bringing her autistic brother along to care for him. He is a genius with numbers and is protective of Kailey. This is not Kailey’s first trip to Foxglove. She and her family took a vacation at the manor about 20 years ago, with Kailey being kidnapped for a short while. She has some memories of the past but can’t recall why she was taken. Kailey is determined to find out what happened in her past. She uncovers more than she bargained for and puts her very life in danger. She hears rumors of a lost treasure that allegedly is hidden in the manor that people have been trying to find for years. Axel is the groundskeeper who offers to help Kailey find answers and maybe romance too.As in her other novels, the author does a great job of weaving the dual timelines together for an entertaining story. The creepy/gothic feel is once again present with a deft explanation at the end. There are some sensitive subjects brought up in the novel and the author handles them with sensitivity. I loved all the details about the Civil War Confederate Treasure, as well as the beautiful descriptions of the Upper Peninsula. I can’t wait to see what the author’s next subject matter will be in her next novel!Note: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility.

Jaime Jo Wright is a master at split time stories and an expert at crafting novels with Gothic mystery! I love her writing as she carefully reveals parts of the story in such perfect timing that it literally makes me go “ahhh” every time a secret is divulged and the plot comes together perfectly. This story had bits of spooky elements but I loved how the explanations came together rationally by the end. But I especially appreciated the author not shying away from difficult topics: there is a character with autism and a character who struggles with depression and suicidality. She handles these circumstances so well and gives me a glimpse into these very real struggles. I applaud her tackling these topics! The characters have so many levels and are complex. It is easy to lose track of time as you get involved in the story and invested in these characters. I loved every part of this book. Jaime Jo Wright once again showed me why she is one of my very favorite authors! I highly recommend this novel!I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I loved this story. This book goes from past to present in a fantastic way. I never got lost as to what time period or what people should be in the time period. I loved the idea that there was a ghost in this home and I loved all the secrets that were needed to be learned to solve the mystery of a possible treasure that needed to be found. I loved Adria and Kailey. This story handles someone with a disability with lots of compassion. I love the emotions in the story. I received a copy of this book from Netgalley for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Jaime Jo Wright writes “read during the day” kinds of books for me and On the Cliffs of Foxglove Manor was no exception. As all of her books do, this one definitely had the creepy factor throughout. As I am not an avid reader of historical fiction, I have really come to appreciate the split timelines that Jaime Jo Wright has mastered. She seamlessly connects the historical to the contemporary timeline. I was very intrigued by the storyline of looking for Confederate gold in the Midwest. I learned a lot about Civil War history I was not aware of before reading this story. My biggest complaint was that I felt like the story moved slowly in the beginning. It took me longer than it normally does to get into either storyline, but when I did I just had to read straight through to the end. I did suspect some of the twists, but I was surprised by some big reveals at the end.Thank you to the author and publisher for an advanced copy of this book. "You imbibe in cowardice. You imbibe in self-disdain. You imbibe by doing the will of others instead of your own. Tell me, which is worse? To be influenced by liquid gold or to always know what's right and instead ignore it? We all have a choice to do the right thing. But most of us lack the gumption to make it."In this deliciously gothic dual timeline mystery and suspense, Jaime Jo Wright once again brings us to a world of secrets where whispered hints of buried treasure haunts a manor in Upper Peninsula and fragility of human mind and heart struggles for acceptance and purpose. Toggling between Adria in 1885 and Kailey in present time, the author paints a beautifully eerie backdrop in Foxglove Manor that overlooks the cliffs of Lake Superior and slowly unravels the Civil War history and conspiracy that tie all the characters together in an unforgettable tale of greed, betrayal, and desperation but also of hope and unconditional love. The plot, with its twists and turns and details, is intricate and well-planned that once the pieces of the puzzle start falling into place, that "aha" moment will surprise you. Once you start this book, you won't be able to put it down. Adria and Mr. Crayne from 1885 are so vulnerable and despondent, yet lovable even in their broken and battered state. How they find strength in each other and in God to weather their storm is poignant. Their romance, though not your 'typical' romance, is quite lovely as Mr. Crayne seeks to protect Adria. Kailey and Axel in the present time are fascinating characters. Kailey is stubborn and determined to figure out what happened to her and her brother Jude 20 years ago and Axel is equally determined to help Kailey find her answers and woo her heart. In the midst of intense mystery and soft touches of romance, the author also sensitively and tenderly addresses autism, dementia, depression and addiction through the characters that you'll cry with their suffering and rejoice with their triumphs. The theme of finding one's true purpose and belonging in God is gently woven through the two timelines. If you love a good mystery/suspense with gothic flavor, you don't want to miss this book by Jaime Jo Wright.I received the book from Bethany House Publishers and was under no obligation to post a positive comment.
