This is the second book in the Dragon Slippers trilogy. I really loved this sequel to Dragon Slippers. These are such wonderful fantasy books and are so much fun to read!Creel has been making a good living as a seamstress, but when word comes of an army of dragons preparing to invade she jumps right into the action.I just love all the characters and dragons in these book so much. There is a lot of action and intrigue and magic. The book is incredibly easy to read, engaging, and just so much fun.This book ends at a good spot and I read the whole thing in just a couple sittings. It is a short and sweet read, I love the world and the story.Overall this was an amazing continuation to the Dragon Slippers series. I would recommend to those who enjoy fantasy and dragons. This is a fun and engaging read with excellent world-building, characters, adventure, and intrigue.

I do love these fairy tales. So neat that Creel's sewing skills are so handy in the adventures. I would read the first book first for sure, but even if you can't or have forgotten it, there's enough (integrated) recap here. Interesting author's note about why the unplanned sequel was written, and pronunciation guide. I will def. try to read the third... off to order it now....

Fantasy, children's)(LT recommended)Mistress Creelisle Carlbrun, heroine of the Dragon War of Feravel and known to her friends (and us, if we've read the first book) as Creel, is bored.She has got her almost-happily-ever-after ending and is now helping her friend Marta with her wedding trousseau, until word comes of dragons amassing for war in the distant country of Citatie. Creel feels impelled to act on behalf of her dragon friends and jumps headlong into another adventure. (There; hopefully there aren't too many spoilers in case you haven't read the first book.)Though it is suitable for children (with just the slightest blush of romance), Day George writes well and doesn't patronise. It is about war, so there are some deaths, and there are some moral dilemmas, but they don't weigh down the story.I like Creel because she's not too perfect to be believable and she's also not a superhero who solves all the problems by herself; she needs the help of her friends, and they're just as feisty as she is. They are not just background characters to Creel's story, even though the narrative is in the first person. I think it's possible to read Dragon Flight without having read Dragon Slippers; events follow on from those in the first book, but are not dependant on them. Apparently Dragon Slippers was not supposed to have a sequel, but here it is; and now, I'm looking forward to reading the third book in the series.Endorsing the recommendation of other LTers for Jessica Day George's books.4 stars

Even though Dragon Slippers didn't end on much of a cliffhanger, I loved it so much that I had to read the next book in the series. Dragon Flight may not be as good as the first book (hard to beat the awesome twist on dragon folklore), but it comes very close. I had a hard time deciding which one I enjoyed more.

There is a lot more action throughout the story with all the battles that take place. As a result, it is a little more violent than the previous book with all the dragons fighting each other and either getting injured or dying. There are also some humans who die as well when they are stabbed or get shot with arrows. However, it is nothing that is too gruesome or too inappropriate for young readers.

Throughout Dragon Slippers there were some relationships developing, which develop even more in this book. There is more hugging and kissing, but again I don't think it is that bad. It happens quickly, isn't focused on so much that it takes away from the story, and can be skipped over if reading aloud, if necessary.

The one thing that makes this story awesome is all the dragons! There are thousands in this book, and the ones that Creel know develop more as the story moves forward. They almost become too human in some parts of the story, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. You get to learn more about Shardas and some of your other favorite dragons.

After reading parts of the book where dragons use alchemy I realized that there is no explanation as to how they are able to do so. I suppose it is hinted that maybe they learned it from Shardas's previous human companion, but I'm not sure.

Overall, it was a great story and I enjoyed the little twist with the King and his dragon. It would be a great read for anyone who loved the first book! I can't wait to read the next one. Just be sure to read Dragon Slippers before enjoying this book!

Okay, so maybe this doesn't quite live up to the brilliance that is Dragon Slippers, but...dang. It's pretty dang good.In the beginning I was skeptical. The plot seems a little ridiculous and maybe a tad repetitive. A few of Creel's plans are far-fetched and it's more than a small miracle that most of them work. Don't get me started on Marta leaping from dragon to dragon... although that's pretty awesome, skeptics aside.I still love Creel and Tobin and Luka and Shardas and all the dragons. That's a big bonus of this book: all the dragons. We get to meet so many new dragons and learn more about the dragon culture. And while this usually decreases the awe factor of dragons, Jessica Day George made it work.And you know what else she never seems to fail at? Endings. She has the magical ability to write brilliant endings. I mean, wow. WOW. I love Luka so much. Wow.

Solid, engaging and witty follow-up to Dragon Slippers. I adore the main characters and am willing to forgive George for straining my credulity with a somewhat thin plot. The sheer joy that infuses this book makes it worth reading. I think this is a lovely series for middle-schoolers. And me.

Great sequel to Dragon Slippers, which I loved. Not a whole lot of character development, more just an adventure for our characters. As such, it succeeds. There was just the right blend of humor, action, romance (very light), and all of our favorite characters were there. It was nice to see the wedding. (No, not Creel and Luka's.*sigh*)The best news is that there is a third book forthcoming, to be published in Spring 2009!!!!! Which I am really looking forward to procuring at the earliest possible juncture.

Just as good as the first. New exciting adventure, with another Dragon War, and we also learn a lot more about the dragons, both their culture and their physical selves. Creel is still, definitely, the heroine, but Marta plays a major role throughout. And then the stupid...or maybe not completely stupid...ultimatum at the end - Miles has a point, but it was presented exactly the wrong way. And a happy ending - two of them, even. Or several - there's the dragon romances as well. Next!

I loved this book. Jessica Day George is an amazing writer. You get so caught up in the story and find it difficult to put it down. I kept wanting to know what happened next. I loved the interaction between Creel and the dragons. I also loved the romance between her and Prince Luka. It was wonderful to revisit with the secondary characters such as Marta and Tobin. I also love how Creel wins over Velika with her kind heart. The dragons were wonderful, especially Shardas, Velika and Feniul. All in all, another amazing book from this talented writer.
