- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Cowboy Meets His Match is the second book in the Haywire Brides Series, and it’s every bit as enjoyable as Cowboy Charm School, the first book in the series. I am hoping this series goes on and on and on.The story starts with a funny (well, funny to us, not so much to Chase and Emily) case of mistaken identity. Chase has to get married to keep his ranch. Emily leaves the East to escape her family’s scandal and become a mail-order bride. Emily has never seen her groom-to-be. Chase knows who he is planning to marry, but between a stampede, Emily’s huge wedding veil and general chaos they end up marrying each other. When they discover the (horrifying) truth it still seems to be in their best interest to remain married for a year. And the fun – and romance – begin.Chase and Emily are very, very different people, with different backgrounds and different expectations. But there’s a spark there. And they are both honorable people, in situations really not of their own making.Author Margaret Brownley takes us on a delightful journey through 1882 Texas. Emily is a fancy lady from Boston, huge wedding veil and all. How is she going to ever convince anyone she is a rancher’s wife? Chase certainly doesn’t see how it will be possible. But the spark grows. Emily grows to love the ranch and Chase, and Chase has a companion, helper and a love he never expected. Of course there are enough scoundrels in their path to make things dangerous and interesting, and Emily’s relationship with little Ginny is sweet and heartwarming. The Cowboy Meets His Match is a very satisfying read that I highly recommend. The story mixes a little mystery and suspense in with the humor, sweetness, love and romance. You should read it – you’ll love it. Here’s hoping there is a Haywire Brides #3!
