About this audiobook
Orange Is the New Black meets Walter Dean Myer’s Monster in this gritty, twisty, and haunting debut by Tiffany D. Jackson about a girl convicted of murder seeking the truth while surviving life in a group home.
Mary B. Addison killed a baby.
Allegedly. She didn’t say much in that first interview with detectives, and the media filled in the only blanks that mattered: a white baby had died while under the care of a churchgoing black woman and her nine-year-old daughter. The public convicted Mary and the jury made it official. But did she do it?
There wasn’t a point to setting the record straight before, but now she’s got Ted—and their unborn child—to think about. When the state threatens to take her baby, Mary’s fate now lies in the hands of the one person she distrusts the most: her Momma. No one knows the real Momma. But does anyone know the real Mary?

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a gripping and emotional roller coaster. The twists and turns keep them engaged and on the edge of their seat. The ending is unexpected and leaves some readers feeling underwhelmed, but overall, the book is highly recommended. The author's storytelling is honest and raw, peeling through layers of character grief to reveal a terrible yet wonderful truth. While some find the ending frustrating, others appreciate the anticipation it builds. It is a masterfully written book that explores trauma and behavior with unapologetic understanding.

Masterfully written, this book is both riveting and heartbreaking all at the same time. Ms. Jackson’s writing gives an unapologetic understanding the behavior of both adult and children dealing with trauma. Absolutely one of my favorite books!1 person found this helpful

I have just found Tiffany Jackson. I’m smitten, challenged, shocked and affirmed with her storytelling. This particular story, painful and raw, peels through layer after layer of character grief to arrive at a terrible, wonderful truth. Please read this book....and you’ll fall in love with her honest stories.1 person found this helpful

So many twists and turns. Just when I thought I knew a person— damn. This was completely riveting and I felt so empathetic towards the main character, Mary. I loved the little quirks about the book that made it unique, like how she kept mentioning that she committed the crime ‘allegedly’, how she referred to her daydreaming as ‘Alyssa-ing’ and the excerpts from psychology books and interviews about the case. Don’t miss out on this incredible read.1 person found this helpful

It was ok. However, it was marketed as a psychological thriller, which had led me to expect something quite different. I can’t sctually suggest the genre - there’s something ‘psychological’ about the story, but it’s quite lengthy and slow. Certainly not a thriller. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5
