Reimagining of ‘Carrie’…
After “Allegedly,” “White Smoke,” and more thrillers, Jackson returns with a reimagining of Stephen King’s “Carrie,” this time reflecting on racism and social justice. Maddy Washington is a white-passing biracial teen in the deep south. Her classmates bully her, her white father demands total whiteness, and Maddy is about to unleash years of pent-up righteous anger on them all.

O-M-G! This book is so good. I am trying to branch out from the genres I usually read. I decided to read this book due to it being October and the month of Halloween. Using Steven King's Carrie as inspiration, I initially thought that this was going to be a knock-off. Tiffany D. Jackson made this story her own. Madison has a big secret! She is constantly bullied by her classmates. However, when it is revealed that she is forced to pass for white by her father even though she is biracial, the bullying intensifies. This text was full of drama and racial tension. However, I love how Maddy got a chance to experience growth and a true friendship/love in the midst of the chaos. Maddie is very lovable, and you will find yourself rooting for the "villain." But is she really a villain, or just a victim of her circumstances? The audiobook made this 10x better. My adrenaline is still rushing! - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

Damn Ms. Jackson knows how to write one helluva story. A great modern twist on an old story/movie like Carrie. Enjoyed it from beginning to end. She is always hitting on social commentary in her stories and I love it. The multiple voice actors, the mixed media, the background sound effects ugh it was so great. I can’t wait to continue to dive into Ms. Jackson’s backlist. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

Such a brilliant and powerful take on the classic Carrie. I appreciated how this modern re-imagining of that cult classic explored the multiple perspectives from characters surrounding the epic catastrophe that took place during that One Prom Night.

Right away you can see that this is a modern retelling of Carrie. I will say the cover and the title definitely drew me in though. Some parts are hard to listen to but very necessary and real. Even though we know what happens, I was still on the edge of my seat DYING to know what happens next lol! The narration, the acting, the music... Amazing - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

What an experience ! For new generations and the fans of the old best selling tale of "Carrie". This new take is absolutely exquisite and different on its own, yet it drizzled with classic parallels without disrespecting original source material and staying original to its own take.
