About this audiobook
From debut author Jamison Shea comes this slow-burn horror novel that lifts a veil on the institutions that profit from exclusion and the toll of giving everything to a world that will never love you back. This program is read by Grammy- and Emmy-award-winning-actor Kristolyn Lloyd.
There will be blood.
Ace of Spades meets House of Hollow in this villain origin story.
Laure Mesny is a perfectionist with an axe to grind. Despite being constantly overlooked in the elite and cutthroat world of the Parisian ballet, she will do anything to prove that a Black girl can take center stage. To level the playing field, Laure ventures deep into the depths of the Catacombs and strikes a deal with a pulsating river of blood.
The primordial power Laure gains promises influence and adoration, everything she’s dreamed of and worked toward. With retribution on her mind, she surpasses her bitter and privileged peers, leaving broken bodies behind her on her climb to stardom.
But even as undeniable as she is, Laure is not the only monster around. And her vicious desires make her a perfect target for slaughter. As she descends into madness and the mystifying underworld beneath her, she is faced with the ultimate choice: continue to break herself for scraps of validation or succumb to the darkness that wants her exactly as she is—monstrous heart and all. That is, if the god-killer doesn’t catch her first.
A Macmillan Audio production from Henry Holt & Company.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I didn’t like how it slowed down but I did enjoy the idea and the suspense and thrill of the book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I loved watching Laure decend into a more wicked person with each chapter as the world around her continued to belittle and cast her aside, however I can't give this 5 stars as I wish the climax of the book was more gritty. I hated how weak Laure was in the climax, I wanted her to fully become the beast, but I guess I understand why she couldn't considering who she was facing off against. I will definitely be on the look out for any other work by this author!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved the mix of emotions this book took me through. I found bits of myself within the pages. I love the rawness the plead to be see and hear and wanting its all so beautiful.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Meh. Nothing wrong with the story. I just found myself bored and didn't care what happened to any of the characters.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I FEED HER TO THE BEAST AND THE BEAST IS ME is an exquisitely written book and everything I aspire to as an artist, from prose to themes and beyond. Thank you so much, Jamison Shea,
for this incredible ride and for your passionate, messy Laure Mesny. Love, my inner beast. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Absolutely magnificent! Stunning narration, intoxicating story. Laure was a menace and a delight, and Jamison Shea has stolen my heart with this story. I’ll be watching for anything else she writes
