About this audiobook
A REESE'S BOOK CLUB PICK
In her powerful debut novel, Looking for Smoke, author K. A. Cobell (Blackfeet) weaves loss, betrayal, and complex characters into a thriller that will illuminate, surprise, and engage readers until the final word. A must-pick for readers who enjoy books by Angeline Boulley and Karen McManus!
When local girl Loren includes Mara in a traditional Blackfeet Giveaway to honor Loren’s missing sister, Mara thinks she’ll finally make some friends on the Blackfeet reservation.
Instead, a girl from the Giveaway, Samantha White Tail, is found murdered.
Because the four members of the Giveaway group were the last to see Samantha alive, each becomes a person of interest in the investigation. And all of them—Mara, Loren, Brody, and Eli—have a complicated history with Samantha.
Despite deep mistrust, the four must now take matters into their own hands and clear their names. Even though one of them may be the murderer.
Editor's Note
Twisty and suspenseful…
A murder and a missing persons case (both unsolved) put a group of Blackfeet teen girls under suspicion, including Mara, who’s new to the reservation. But it’s immediately clear that police aren’t doing much to solve the cases, leading Mara and the rest to take up the investigation — which may mean incriminating one of their own. Twisty, suspenseful, and unfortunately relevant, this YA thriller shines a light on the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women epidemic, along with Missing White Woman syndrome.

I really enjoyed this book. It highlighted the important issues facing Native Americans. I liked the characters, and it was very good at letting you know who they were as people as if I knew them. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

A very well written story, creating awareness of all the things we do not know that are still happening to young women.
