About this audiobook

Now an original Netflix series!

From the author of The Wicked Heart and The Immortal comes a beautiful and haunting novel about a group of five terminally ill teenagers whose midnight stories become their reality.

Rotterham Home was a hospice for young people—a place where teenagers with terminal illnesses went to die. Nobody who checked in ever checked out. It was a place of pain and sorrow, but also, remarkably, a place of humor and adventure.

Every night at twelve, a group of young guys and girls at the hospice came together to tell stories. They called themselves the Midnight Club, and their stories could be true or false, inspiring or depressing, or somewhere in-between.

One night, in the middle of a particularly scary story, the teenagers make a secret pact with each other, which says, “The first one who dies will do whatever he or she can do to contact us from beyond the grave, to give us proof that there is life after death.”

Then one of them does die...

Christopher Pike

Christopher Pike is a bestselling young adult novelist and has published several adult books as well—Sati and The Season of Passage being the most popular. In YA, his Last Vampire series—often called Thirst—is a big favorite among his fans. Pike was born in Brooklyn, New York, but grew up in Los Angeles. He lives in Santa Barbara, California, with his longtime partner, Abir. Currently, several of Pike’s books are being turned into films, including The Midnight Club, which Netflix released as part of a ten-part series. The Midnight Club also draws from a half dozen of Pike’s earlier works. Presently, The Season of Passage is being adapted as a feature film by Universal Studios while Chain Letter—one of Pike all-time bestselling books—is also being adapted by Hollywood. At the moment, Pike is hard at work on a new YA series.

What our readers think

Readers find this title to be a mix of emotions. The stories told by the kids are interesting and the book is beautifully written and narrated. However, some readers found the book boring and felt that there wasn't much going on in the characters' lives. The main character's positive philosophical talk seemed insincere to some. Overall, the book explores the theme of acceptance and the inevitability of death. While some parts dragged on, others felt rushed. The TV show adaptation was also not well-received. Despite its flaws, the book is still considered a beautiful and touching read.

The book is not scary like the show but still a beautiful story. I love that the actor playing Ilonka was the narrator.

A very sweet, yet sad story. It has many good points and the stories the kids tell are interesting.
The scariest part was the fact that all these kids are fatally ill.

This was my very first time experiencing the YA works of Christopher Pike.....and it will NOT be my last time; either.
We all know that we come into this world and know that one day we will leave it also; however what we do not know is that however long we are here, people will come into and leave our worlds while we are still here. Do we learn to accept this? Do we learn to accept and hate this? Do we learn just to ignore the fact that it IS TRUE.......both we and them will leave some day. The book is about 5 young adults who are all terminally ill, and they are dying. Yes. Then know it, but they do not know when or how they will die. The group lives in a hospice and on certain nights of the week at Midnight, they get together and tell horror stories. BUT the trick to these stories are what their life is about and what it is doing to them emoionally and physically. This is a book that all people should read, listen or watch......and then SHARE your experience of what these 5 People taught you about YOUR life.

    I LOVED< LOVED this book!

Liked the narrator, but became bored often while listening. I wanted to skip the club’s stories sometimes. I Thought it would be more supernatural after reading the blurb, but was disappointed. Some parts drug out too long while others seemed rushed. I liked the ambiance of the club, but definitely found myself rolling my eyes throughout this read (not with the characters, but at them)

Pretty boring. There's not much to the stories they tell nor much going on in their lives. The main character is always talking positive philosophical stuff but without seeming genuine about it. The TV show is different from the book and also not very good.

Joint reading of the group, exclusively.
First of all, I thought I would find a story of suspense and some horror; something in the synopsis made me think erroneously.
To my surprise, I found a very different story, but pleasantly good and deeply touching.
A group of five young terminal patients are in a center waiting for death. Every day at midnight, they gather for a meeting and share stories.
All the stories relate to something in life or dreams they have, whether from pain medication or who knows.
No one knows if we are just passing through, if we jump from life to life; so much is said, yet we will never know.
I'll leave the rest of the details to you, as otherwise this sad, joyful, happy, and peaceful story would lose its charm, letting each person form their own opinion.
I really liked it; it hits home, that peace at the end of something and feeling satisfied. Recommended, read it. Thank you very much. (Translated from Spanish)

A non-pretentious book about a young woman who travels to 1920 to meet a book club where she meets a famous writer whom she falls in love with. (Translated from Spanish)
