About this audiobook

Ten teens. Three days. One killer.

It was supposed to be the weekend of their lives—an exclusive house party on Henry Island. Best friends Meg and Minnie are looking forward to two days of boys, booze, and fun-filled luxury. But what starts out as fun turns twisted after the discovery of a DVD with a sinister message: Vengeance is mine. And things only get worse from there.

With a storm raging outside, the teens are cut off from the outside world . . . so when a mysterious killer begins picking them off one by one, there's no escape. As the deaths become more violent and the teens turn on one another, can Meg find the killer before more people die? Or is the killer closer to her than she could ever imagine?

What our readers think

Readers find this title to have mixed reviews. Some readers enjoyed the audiobook version, despite the audio cutting off at the end of chapters. Others found the first half of the book to be a list of characters and deaths, but appreciated the narrative structure in the second half. There were complaints about the cringy dialogue and stereotypical teenage characters, but some readers still found the book to be good. Overall, it is a solid read with suspense and an unexpected ending, recommended for thriller fans.

This book was soo cringy. The way the teenage characters talked was soo bad. It was so stereotypical. You could definitely tell someone older wrote the teenagers. I didn't know who the killer was, but once I knew, the ending was very obvious. I'm going to give this a 1.5 star just because I didn't figure out who the killer was, but this book was very hard to get threw. The cringe factor was very high.

booknook — Young Adult book reviewsI almost didn't read this book for one reason: I don't read horror. I like some horror/mystery movies, but I'm extremely picky. And until now, I had never read a book in that genre. At first, Ten was an intriguing book with an EXTREMELY annoying side character (Minnie). At the half-way point, I started freaking out. Things went from interesting to downright creepy. I had chills. ACTUAL CHILLS. Not metaphorical chills—real ones. I was suddenly completely on edge, paranoid, and felt like someone was watching me (despite being alone in my apartment).Ten is so thrilling and suspenseful. I love how we can literally see things spiralling out of control! It's definitely very Lord of the Flies. People turn on each other, question their friends, and question their sanity.I read this book in one sitting because I literally could not put it down. I had no idea that Ten would have such a strong effect on me! I had to shoot film scenes for uni today and I was whipping my book out in between takes because I just had to find out what happened next! The best thing about Ten is that I couldn't predict the ending, though I desperately wanted to. The whole time I was reading, I was also speculating and trying to figure out the killer. At all times, I was bouncing around about 5 possibilities, but I couldn't narrow it down. The book kept me constantly guessing! My one gripe with the book was Minnie. Minnie is supposed to be an annoying character, and it all gets explained at the end, but before that was clear to me, she was pissing me off. She was a horrible, disrespectful, unthoughtful friend to Meg and what annoyed me most was how Meg totally put up with it. At one point even T.J. says to Meg, "You deserve better," and he's totally right. But things change as the book goes on: Meg has less patience with Minnie and Minnie's near-insanity gets a good explanation. But in the beginning, I was rolling my eyes every time her name came up!I am so glad I read Ten! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. It's absolutely terrifying, disturbing, psychologically freaky, and totally gripping. Even if you don't normally read this genre (like me), I still highly recommend it. AWESOME BOOK!

    This was so good!

The only complaint I have is that on the last word of each chapter, it would cut off too soon and move on.

My only complaint about this book is that the audio cuts off at the very end of a majority of the chapters. So it’ll get to the end of a chapter and right before the last word it will cut off. Otherwise I liked the audiobooks.

This is a one time only read. The first half of the book was almost a laundry list of characters and deaths, not a story about characters I care about. The second half had more narrative structure, and the ending was interesting.

This book is good to listen to while doing something else, like cleaning or cooking, since it doesn’t require or grab your full attention.

Pretty solid read. Some of the dialogue didn’t seem super realistic but overall it was pretty interesting. Quite suspenseful and the ending wasn’t expected. If you like thrillers you’ll probably enjoy this one.

I’ve been following Gretchen McNeil since before she came out with her Debut novel, Possess. So when I hear this one was coming out. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I love her books and her writing style! Cover: The cover looks really dark and creepy. But it fits in with the story beautifully. I absolutely love the cover for this book. They did an awesome job with it.Plot: I really liked the plot. I loved how Gretchen tied everything and every one of the characters to the story together. There was so much detail and thought put into this piece, and it shows. It shows very nicely. I loved how the journal entries and the deaths matched to what happened with them and the girl Claire Hicks. I really liked how it seems the deaths also go along with the order in which they interacted with Claire. As I was reaching the end of the book, I couldn’t believe the twist that she wrote. The person who is the killer I had no idea it was that person. I was like, “What? No way it was that person!” I was surprised to see who the killer was.

Ten is a novel of intrigue, mystery, and murder.
It's not bad; it was actually a light read, though there were moments when it felt a bit heavy. Overall, it was fine.
It has some clichés typical of mystery novels, but I really liked the ending; the plot twist caught me off guard, and that was good.
It's about 10 friends who go to a party to which they are invited (on a remote island cut off from the world) and as the days go by, they are being murdered and have to figure out how to escape the island without dying first. (Translated from Spanish)

A children's book based on Ten Little Indians by Agatha Christie. If you are over 15, I don't think you'll like it too much. I had high expectations from the synopsis, but instead of focusing on the important aspects, the plot centers around the "love" of two children that honestly doesn't fit with the flow of the story nor interests me. This book is a reimagining of "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie with teenagers and quite watered down.

The best that can be said about this book is that it is entertaining. However, I would have liked it to surprise me and not follow the structure of the original book so closely.

The romance in the story feels forced and makes some of the protagonists' behaviors incomprehensible ("All my friends are dying, but my crush looked at me"). Moreover, most of the characters are utterly flat, insufferable, and not very intelligent.

In conclusion, the comparison with "And Then There Were None" is very much against it. My humble advice to the author would be: if you’re not going to improve upon the original book, it’s better not to do anything at all. (Translated from Spanish)

I read it years ago, managed to reread it in a day, and honestly, I remembered it being more captivating, but lately I've found that what seemed super cool to me at 15 now feels somewhat ridiculous, who would have thought?

That said, I have to confess that I didn't hate it, but it did frustrate me a lot. The author relies heavily on the classic reasoning of slashers where characters don't suspect something is clearly wrong, because why would you doubt something so obvious? And why would you make all your characters doubt? It's repetitive and not very believable when taken into the real world. I'm sorry, it was predictable, it didn't surprise me, and in fact, it was easy for me to deduce the ending.

Even so, it's a good read to pass the time. (Translated from Spanish)

The book seemed quite promising but, however, it became boring and predictable. Starting from the halfway point, you already know who the killer is, then most of the characters only seemed to have to say dull and idiotic comments. Thirdly, the deaths were nothing special, and finally, the killer's motives were absurd and illogical. I do not recommend it. (Translated from Spanish)

TEN or what I would call Ten Little Niggers of the modern era is a young adult novel that leans towards suspense. Ten kids are invited to a party held at a house on an island belonging to the most popular girl in school. The entire story is seen from Meg's perspective, who, along with her best friend Minnie, are the last to arrive on the island, and upon arrival, they discover that the hostess won't arrive until the next day; everything seems fine until they find a video featuring a series of strange images and a caption at the end that reads: "The revenge is mine." The next morning, one of the boys is found dead in what appears to be a suicide, but this is called into question when the next body appears, and from there we already know what follows.

In reality, the book has no major surprises, but I enjoyed it a lot; it’s very addictive, the chapters are short and brisk, which makes reading easier. As I said at the beginning, it’s a young adult novel, so in addition to following the mystery, we also delve into Meg's conflicts, especially the toxic relationship she has with her "best friend," which I must say can be frustrating.

All in all, I liked the book; it maintains the mystery at a good level and is very entertaining. I read in other reviews that it’s very easy to figure out the killer, but I am a very poor investigator because I actually went completely down another path. Even the final twist, although it does seem taken from an American movie, I liked. (Translated from Spanish)

I liked the plot, but what I didn't like was that they emphasized the love of a teenager so much, knowing that it wasn't the main focus of the book. Even though it was relevant, it wasn't 100% important to show so much development of those two characters while others were not developed as much. (Translated from Spanish)

In the style of Agatha Christie with Ten Little Indians, it presents us with some young people on an island who... are gradually dying. And although the premise sounds quite interesting, I found the story rather obvious; by halfway through the book, I already suspected who was behind everything, and the ending seemed quite predictable to me. I would have preferred to be surprised by an unexpected ending rather than the classic one from a 90's movie. But anyway, overall it is an easy book to read and perfect for passing the time. I suppose it is... okay? The ending is incredibly predictable and there are some characters that contribute absolutely nothing; however, that doesn't take away from the fact that it's a story that hooks you and is entertaining, not to mention that it's a young adult retelling of And Then There Were None, which is a book I love. Ten teenagers are invited to THE PARTY OF THE YEAR on an island for three days. What they don't know is that among them is a killer who won't rest until everyone is dead.

Doesn't the book promise much? Well, I thought it did. A retelling of Agatha Christie's famous novel in a more youthful version. I thought, why not?

Unfortunately, it was a reading that I could not fully enjoy. Starting with the characters, there are ten teenagers but you really only get to know three; the rest add nothing to the plot. I felt they were just there to make silly and unpleasant comments. It was impossible for me to feel empathy for any of them. Another thing is that the reader knows from the very beginning that there will be a killer, as it’s stated in the synopsis, and it becomes quite clear as the plot progresses. But it isn't until almost the end—after several deaths—that the characters become aware of this, and even then, some doubt it. For them, it was all "Oh, how strange. How did that get there? Why did they leave a threatening note on the corpse? What a tasteless joke." It was so repetitive; they always thought it was an accident and focused so much on the main characters that it became tedious. And let's not even talk about the quite predictable ending and the rushed romance because I could go on forever.

In summary, it's a book that does entertain but with a plot that wasn't fully utilized and uninteresting characters. Better to read Agatha Christie's version. (Translated from Spanish)

    I really enjoyed this book.
I love horror. This fit the bill there. Was it super scary? Not really.
It had mystery, a bit of violence and gore, but because it was such a whodunnit, it lacked in scare factor.
Still it was a great mind bend!
In the last few chapters especially. It took me where I was like, what the heck?! How?! Then the author brought it all together.
    Yup, I'm a fan!

This is a YA novel "inspired by Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None" (according to the Amazon page).

Ten teenagers are at a house party on an island full of summer homes in the middle of February. There is a huge storm which of course knocks out power and phone lines. As her friends start dying, Meg tries to figure out the clues left behind, all while protecting her best friend from falling apart, and hiding her secret crush.

The characters are mostly underdeveloped (some of them die rather quickly after we meet them) and basically unlikeable. But the book is fast-paced and kept me guessing until the very end. I had my suspicions, but they were wrong, which is always fun.

Cheesy fun. Reminded me of the mid 90s Christopher Pike books I used to enjoy. Nothing groundbreaking, or even really surprising, but a solid little suspense book.
