About this audiobook
Hugh Breedlove is far from the most agreeable client private investigator Frank Malloy has ever had, but his case is impossible to refuse: his young niece, Julia, has been wrongfully committed to an insane asylum by her cruel and unfaithful
husband, Chet Longly. Though Breedlove and his wife seem more interested in protecting the family reputation than their niece’s safety, Frank and Sarah agree to help for the sake of Julia and the young son she left behind.
Frank and Sarah’s investigation reveals a dark secret—a maid at the Longly home died suspiciously under Chet’s watch, and now it seems Julia’s son might also be in danger. The Malloys fear they are dealing with a man more dangerous than
they had anticipated, one who will do anything to defame his wife. But all is not as it seems in the Longly family, and perhaps another monster is hiding in plain sight…

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Thompson always has interesting themes and this book is no exception. What is insanity? It is easy to understand why Frank and Sarah are confused because women were expected to behave a certain way and divorce not accepted. So when they are told Julia has been sent to an asylum for the insane, it is easy to see why they would initially think she is being wronged by her husband. It takes the entire team along with some old friends from previous books to solve the puzzle. (And for longtime fans of the series Maeve and Gino's romance is progressing nicely.)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Another great Frank and Sarah Malloy story. Frank’s detective agency accepts a job from a wealthy man wanting to get his niece released from an insane asylum. Everyone believes the worst of Julia Longley’s husband and Frank and his wife go to asylum meet Julia and talk to her doctors. They form different opinions of the doctor and of Julia. With the help of Gino, Maeve (who gets a job as nursemaid to the 4 yr. old Victor Longley), Sarah’s mother and even old friend Jack Robinson they resolve the case while Sarah attends to the birth of a neighbor’s grandchild.
