- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Interesting story with too many flaws
I listened to the audiobook. The narrator is very good and brings the story and characters to life. Sadly, the story has some good aspects and ends happily enough, with a good romance, but is just overall pretty dismal and unbelievable. I understand the author has a background in psychology and abuse, but this story seems a bit much. I'm not saying this kind of thing doesn't happen, but it just seemed like too much to be believable. If you have sexual abuse triggers, you really should stay away from this book. I personally didn't find it too upsetting, mostly because I didn't really buy into the circumstances. I felt the happy feels and blocked out the other emotions. The story arc and pacing wasn't ideal. It's hard to comment on the writing itself when I'm only listening, but the writing didn't seem perfect. There were several places where I winced or was puzzled by the wording. I think this was my first book by this author and I probably will not read any others, but I was impressed by the narrator, Emily Beresford, so I will probably see what else she has done in lesbian fiction by other authors.
