About this audiobook

1917 Vienna.

Can Fiona catch a killer and find a decent cup of tea?

Fiona follows Fredrick Fredricks to Vienna where she gets caught up in a royal mess.

File clerk turned British agent, Fiona Figg, is more comfortable wearing a fake mustache than a ballgown.

When a royal ball ends with a royal body in the middle of the dance floor, Fiona trades her dancing slippers for practical oxfords and sets out to investigate.

As she tracks her nemesis, Fredrick Fredricks, from Vienna to the Austrian countryside, a hunting accident makes her rethink her loyalties.

Can Fiona prevent a killer from striking again, save her own skin, and find a decent cup of tea, all before the emperor realizes she’s a spy?

The narrator’s mispronunciation of “assignation” as “assassination” & “armoire” as “armoree” is torturing me. Argh. It continues: “Culminating” as “cumulating”

The story is interesting and I have *mostly* enjoyed this series. There is good humour and a fun mystery. I say *mostly* bc the the main character, Fiona Figg, is a rather horrendous spy and oftentimes an annoying character. I find books to be much more enjoyable when I like the main character.

I love Fiona’s weakness for hats. Her character is quite bold for a woman in that era. A brave female character weaved together with historical characters and a delightful murder mystery. Reads like an Agatha Christie mystery novel!

Excellent! This series evolves wonderfully. Looking forward to the next one.

After listening to 3 of these, I am still trying to figure out if the authors are making Fiona a complete twit on purpose. It’s pretty hard to believe that she could be a spy if she can’t even remember for five minutes that she’s wearing a disguise. She literally forgets every single time. That and all the other dumb things she does are making the story a pretty big eye roll for me. But I appreciate that it’s clean, no swearing, no sex, minimal violence, and I enjoy the historical fiction aspect, so I stick it out. I continue to be annoyed by the narrator’s strange inflections, especially making every female character other than Fiona sound like a breathy, brainless femme fatale. Very distracting. That and her frequent mispronunciations. If you’re a Maisie Dobbs fan and were told you would like this, be aware that it doesn’t compare at all. Maisie Dobbs is impressively intelligent. Fiona Fig is dumb. Hopefully she’ll get smarter in the next book.

I like this author and this series quite a lot. The narrator, though, leaves much to be desired. There are an astonishing number of mispronunciations (not attributable to regional accents), some of which are so odd that I wonder if English is not her first language.

Fiona shouldn't overthink so much. It gets old very quickly and it makes her very unbelievable as a spy, even a new one. The endings are the best because suddenly she's not overthinking and is acting smart and normal. I suffer through the rest of the book to get to the endings. What's the point of her disguises if she is constantly going to forget she's in them and give herself away? Seriously most of the time she's the worst spy ever and you wonder why she's actually a spy. I get a bit clutzy, but this is the third book, she shouldn't be THAT clumsy. I expect a bit more improvement than what we're getting. The characters and stories have potential, but need some work.

Enjoyable read! Loved the authors historical notes at the end of the recording.
