The lychford books are easy to listen to and sort of comforting. I think they're a bit slow though - this one especially. While I appreciate the intricacies of the town society, I wish there had been more magic. I mean it would have been cooler if the well water burst on them earlier in the book and we got to see what it was like for the normal town inhabitants to experience magic for the first time. Also, there should have been more fairies in this book... Also, I'm really not sure what the heck Maitland was... Like... What sort of creature was she? It wasn't explained very well... And when the author wrote that 'Judith grabbed the edge of the universe' it just seemed kinda lazy. The magic systems weren't explained very well in this book. There was a lot of talk about how magic is about 'story' and how it's about sacrifice and sort of payment.... But it just made magic really.... Kinda..... Woowoo. I prefer books that have clear cut magic systems.
