About this audiobook
This is the age of addiction, a condition so epidemic, so all encompassing and ubiquitous that unless you are fortunate enough to be an extreme case, you probably don't know that you have it.
What unhealthy habits and attachments are holding your life together? Are you unconsciously dependent on food? Bad relationships? A job that doesn't fulfill you? Numb, constant perusal of your phone, looking for what?
My qualification for writing this book is not that I am better than you, it's that I am worse. I am an addict, addicted to drugs, alcohol, sex, money, love and fame.
The program in Recovery has given Russell Brand freedom from all addictions and it will do the same for you.
This system offers nothing less than liberation from self-centredness, a new perspective, freedom from the illusion of suffering for anyone who is willing to take the necessary steps.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5There is nowhere else I would rather have gone to learn more deeply about recovery programs that work and the actual details and authentic path of Russel Brand that I've been privileged to meet on a virtual e-meet. He spoke briefly about the book as a tool to help addicts and I found it to be a tool indeed. This book not only taught me about the value of doing step work but I actually gained the courage to go through some of the steps I have stayed stuck in just from the fear of not succeeding in the program. By knowing how another person can so effortlessly admit to being effed-up royally makes me at ease in my effed-upness.
This book is not just about learning the steps but it's also about discovering the importance of doing regular introspections, as your perspective of the world changes you would change your lifestyle too. There is so much value in investing in holistic well-being (mind you, that also includes being kind to yourself, and being patient with yourself). It also leverages the author's distinct sense of humour, blending honesty and comprehension with the agony of addiction and recovery. "Recovery" offers the perspective of a man who has been through the process, offering insights and advice from someone who has been through all of the methods and hurdles described. Stepping away from the idea of recovery one can also learn how one can use their talents to impact the world more positively. Russell has in this book allowed himself to be brave and vulnerable about the effed-up parts of himself and has shown how all of that can be turned into good.
For me personally, this has been such a good read in the sense that I was both entertained and educated on the basic principles of a program that I've had access to for many years that I haven't fully utilised. Maybe it was fear, maybe just complacency, maybe just waiting to hear from the right speaker because as he states in the book, he had been through many programs that didn't quite work and was brave enough to go through the program under the mentorship of an atheist. What happens for a lot of us that are not too religious in these programs, we disconnect just based on previous experiences with an institution, religious sect, or whatever the case may be. Russell has managed to map out the 12 steps in a biteable and relatable manner and for that, I will forever be grateful to have been exposed to this book.1 person found this helpful
