About this audiobook
Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd.
But six years haven't come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd's obituary, he can't keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd's wife he's hoping for... but she is not Natalie - and Jake's world is turned completely inside out.
As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can't be found or don't remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake's search for the woman who broke his heart - and who lied to him - soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on carefully constructed fiction.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I think I read this too soon after 'Win', because I found it quite similar, and not quite as good. Jake's persistence in loving a woman he knew for three months six years ago is very romantic, I suppose, and necessary for the plot, but a bit of a stretch. Still, a quick engrossing read.I read it in one sitting.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Another excellent suspense novel from Harlan Coben. I still want more Myron though.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5My second and most likely last Coben book. This read like a romance novel for men - and the author was so lazy he re-used an anecdote from the only other book I'd read by him, No Second Chance - a line about The Fair Inn - how it wasn't great or good, but just "fair". I read these books (purchased for 50 cents each at a library book sale) because I needed some mental relief from a few dark books I was also reading. These did the trick but it really depresses me that SO many people read this crap when there are so many truly great writers and books out there, lesser known but more worthy of one's time.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A clever story of a love gone wrong and a guys attempt to reclaim his relationship. It turns out to be much deeper than that - a clever mystery with countless twists and turns. There are a few clues but some key clues aren't revealed until the end. It hangs together well and I found it an exciting read.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Promises gf not to keep in the after she marries but he waits for six years when her husband dies but she cannot be found until the end. Would not recommend
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I liked this book, but found it not as exciting or well written as previous ones I've read of his. Jake Fisher promised the love of his life that he would not contact Natalie for six years. Natalie moved on and married someone else. Finding Natalie's husbands obituary, he now feels it is safe to try to track her down. But, when he attends the funeral, it is not Natalie that he finds. His attempt to find her leads to quite an adventure!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I just love the way Haran Coben writes... he's funny - and it shows in his characters! Myron Bolitar was NOT in this one, but I loved this new guy Jake.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A great plot - many twists and turns that kept me guessing. Coben has written a complex, layered story with characters that you want to see succeed on their various missions. The story contains bad guys, but they're not revealed right off. The plot drags a little in the middle. As is usual with a Coben mystery, the end isn't the end until the very end.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5When you read Harlan Coben, you need to go into it with a couple of things in mind.
1. His works are not literary classics and nor do they pretend or aim to be.
2. The stories are formulaic - murder, secrets, betrayal and twists. Not necessarily a bad thing - if this is the sort of story you like, you know it will deliver.
3. The writing, while generally fine, is not always on point, but the story is always engrossing, fast paced and it's never that bad that it distracts you from the task at hand - ie finding out how all the seemingly unrelated subplots tie together for a big twist at the end.
So with all that in mind Six Years delivers on these expectations, the author has found a prescription for success and rarely deviates. For me that's great. I want to know what to expect when I pick up a Coben book.. when ever I want to read a quick paced, page turning thriller full of twists, within one or two sittings I can turn to Coben and not be disappointed. I don't always need my authors to "grow". I read their work when I'm in a specific mood and after a particular type of story and I like that. If I want to change it up, I read something /someone else.
I will say that your first Coben will probably be your favourite, particularly his later ones (okay maybe his writing style grew a little and I'm okay with that) - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I didn't hate it. Parts of it were good. Like the main character's inner thoughts were often funny and the storyline was entertaining. But the whole plot taken together seemed to have too many holes in it, people doing things that didn't seem believable or justified.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Six years ago, Jake watched the love of his life marry another man. After the wedding, Natalie made him promise that he would leave her and her groom alone.
Devastated, Jake moves on with his life, and keeps his promise....until, he sees the obituary of Natalie's husband, six years later...MURDERED.
An innocent enough search to find Natalie to see how she's doing, to get answers, to well he didn't really know what turns in an unexpected mystery, murders, and and secrets that begin to unravel the past about some of the people he thought he was closest too...
Where is Natalie? - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5So this is why Harlan Coben is a best-seller. When principled college professor discovers the woman he loved has become a widow he searches her out. But she has disappeared and no one is willing to help. An engrossing page-turning mystery thriller.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Harlan Coben can always be counted on to tell a good story. This one was fast-paced and smart, with a bit of humor and a happy ending. Good brain candy!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Jake Fisher watches Natlaie, the love of his life get married to Todd. She tells Jake Todd was a former boyfriend. At the wedding she asks him to promise not to contact her ever again. Despite his broken heart, Jake honors his promise. Until six years later when Jake reads Todd's obituary. Deciding his promise is no longer valid, Jake begins the search for Natalie only to discover that no one seems to to be able to verify anything he remembers. The search is not only baffling, but dangerous, and Coben once again had me glued to the book, reading compulsively to find the answers. Coben's delivered another winner of a mystery.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is an easy-to-read thriller about a college professor, Jake Fisher, who witnesses the marriage of a woman he deeply loves. He promises not to follow her, but six years later, when he accidently sees her husband's obituary, he breaks his promise and starts a search that will end up in many deaths. The story moves fast, there are no unnecessary details, the plot at first seems intriguing. However, in the end I got a strange feeling of stupidity. The whole story turned out to be quite implausible, with repetitive scenes which were so much alike. Can be recommended as a light summer read for those who prefer thrillers which do not require much involvement from the reader.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Yesterday my Mom stopped by and saw I was reading this book and said she LOVES this author and has read so many of his novels. This is the first of his books I've read and I understand why she likes his work so much. I had a very hard time putting it down. I stayed up late reading until I had to stop. I never could guess what was going on and why Natalie was missing and why so many people wanted to kill Jake. The twists and turns were wonderful. I like when I have no clue what is going on until the end. Harlan will take you on an enjoyable ride with this book. I plan to read more of his work and I have become a fan. I highly recommend this book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very good read. I couldn't put it down,it was such an twister. With so many surprises.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Written in a down-to-earth way that keeps you guessing & reading, until the last page.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5"I sat in the back pew and watched the only woman I would ever love marry another man."
The burning questions of this novel... Why did Natalie leave and where is she now? Well, I think as an outsider it was easy to guess why she left. But I can see why the protagonist had a hard time figuring it out. The fun of this novel is watching him try to put the pieces together and biting my nails during the anxious moments when he puts himself in real danger. In the end, the explanation isn't as simple as I expected. And the last chapter does have a slight twist.
Harlan Coben writes exciting, easy-to-read stories. This one was ok. I couldn't really get into the mystery because I felt like it was sort of obvious. I didn't mind the book, but I wasn't blown away by it either.
Recommended to:
Adults who enjoy Harlan Coben or James Patterson; people who like thrillers, adventures or crime novels. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The book opens with a prologue where we see Natalie, once the love of Jake Fisher’s life, marrying another man. He’d thought they were happy together, but then suddenly she tells him she's leaving him and marrying an old boyfriend. Jake goes to the wedding, still convinced that Natalie must feel something for him, but instead, she extracts a promise from him that he’ll leave her and her husband alone. Unwillingly, Jake gives the promise and walks away from them and their lives. Then six years later, Jake comes across an obituary of the man Natalie married and, in the same way as he couldn’t keep away from their wedding, he can’t keep away from Todd’s funeral, either. But at the funeral, things aren’t at all what Jake expected. For one thing, Todd’s widow isn’t Natalie and that’s when everything Jake had believed true about their time together starts to unravel.
Had he imagined the whole romance? Jake’s best friend suggests that possibility. But Jake knows better and starts to believe that something sinister is going on. It turns out that Natalie’s so-called husband was murdered, someone seems to have followed Jake back from Vermont, and then he gets an e-mail that might just be from Natalie herself telling him to remember his promise. Every time he overturns a stone in Natalie’s past, something nasty seems to crawl out from underneath it and the plot becomes ever more convoluted.
I really enjoy Harlan Coben's novel's but this wasn't my favorite. And yet, it's all mildly entertaining. Fast paced, formulaic and mostly forgettable. I think most fans of the author will be satisfied with this effort. They probably won't proclaim it to be among the author's best efforts but it should keep them entertained for a few hours. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This is a very disappointing effort by Harlan Coben.Characters weren't believable at all.Jake is a college lecturer and cant get over his old love Natalie he knew 6 years ago.Story moves along but to far fetched for me.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was my first book by Harlan Coben, but definitely not my last. Six Years is a book shrouded in mystery with this dry humor interlaced throughout that makes you laugh when you least expect it. Jake, our MC, fell in love six years ago only to abruptly lose the girl he loved to another man. Natalie (said girl) makes Jake promise never to look for her and then disappears from his life. Six years later he sees an obituary for her husband and decides to try and reconnect with Natalie. Only, the wife at the funeral is not Natalie. And so begins his quest to figure out what really happen six years a go. This book is filled with twists and surprises that leave you as confused as Jake is, especially at the beginning. Slowly the past starts unraveling itself and a picture of Natalie and the events surrounding her disappearance begins to form. By 3/4 of the way through I had pretty much figured out what happened, but I felt myself second guessing my assumptions until the end. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book: the plot, the characters and the writing.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I thought a lot of it was just like Tell No One.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5a bit twisted but I love happy endings.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Six Years by Harlan Coben is a 2013 Dutton Adult publication. If you read Harlan Coben at all, then you know pretty much what to expect from his work. Stand alone or series, you can never figure out where you are being led until the very end, the.very.end. This book was no exception. This is quintessential Harlan Coben. Six years ago, Jake Fisher watched the love of his life, Natalie, married another man. He attended the wedding to see it with his own eyes because he simply can't wrap his head around their sudden break up. He was positive Natalie felt the same way he did, but she goes indeed marry Todd and then extracts a promise from Jake to leave her alone and let her live her life. For six years he keeps his promise, but when he happens upon Todd's obituary, all the old feelings come back to the surface and he decides to attend the funeral, but gets the shock of his life, when the widow is not Natalie. So, where on earth is Natalie? Jake doesn't know, but it's now his quest in life to find her. But, someone doesn't want Jake to succeed...It's been a really long time since I read Harlan Coben, but he is one of my favorite mystery writers. I liked Jake's character, he was funny, real, and I could literally feel his pain and over losing the love of his life. I liked that he let his feelings for Natalie drive him toward the truth. There are twist galore and a few hairpin turns for kicks and giggles. Sure, sure, there were a few times when the fast pacing nearly jumped the track and a few times the plot verged on the implausible, but I was riveted from start to finish and of course in signature Coben style there is one last surprise at the end to put the cherry on the cake. It's always an adventure when you dive into Coben's stories and I hope I can squeeze more of his books into my immediate TBR pile, because I really have missed him. 4 stars
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Another very enjoyable read from Harlan Coben. I always enjoy reading his writing. It was a very interesting concept in this novel. I would recommend this book!
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Ugh. I know I´m going against the grain but I actually put it aside well past the halfway point. I found the writing style adolescent, the plot predictable, and the "hook" nonexistent. Fail.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5SuspensefulWooHoo!!! Six Years was fast paced and easy to read. The suspense kept me wanting to turn the page. I highly recommended it.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is the first Harlan Coben novel I've read. I was a tiny bit disappointed. Although written well enough, I had issues around the lack of foreshadowing. Reading along, you feel that it's going in one direction and it suddenly shifts. The ending seemed out of the blue. Yes, it tied everything together but it felt a bit forced.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Another solid easy to read effort by Coben.
