About this audiobook

Annie Howarth is living a restless life in a restless town. It's 1984 and for a mining community in South Yorkshire, the strikes mean tensions are running high. Then a murdered girl is found on the moors and the anxiety levels are pushed to a dangerous breaking point.

Married to the Chief of Police, Annie should feel safe — William can be secretive, though surely whatever he's hiding is for her own good.

But Annie is keeping her own secrets. Ten years ago the man she loved was ripped from her life in a scandal that still haunts the both of them, and now his return will put her family, her marriage, even her life, at risk.

An atmospheric and suspenseful novel you'll find impossible to put down, from the talented Richard & Judy bestseller.

A Random House UK audio production.

I've enjoyed every Louise Douglas book I've read and Your Beautiful Lies is no exception. It is the story of Annie Howarth, married to a senior police officer in a South Yorkshire mining town at the time of the miners' strikes in 1984. William is a lot older than Annie and when her ex-boyfriend reappears in her life she finds herself drawn to him again. Add in a murder on the moors and you have a fantastic story and one which I couldn't put down. The writing has a very strong sense of place and time with evocative descriptions of the town, the moors and Annie's home, together with the backdrop of the strikes and an underlying tension all the way through. The book isn't a thriller or even a crime novel, but an excellent example of the contemporary fiction genre. The characters are interesting and crippled by their secrets and lies. It's a real page turner which I read in two days and enjoyed immensely.
