About this audiobook

The unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of The Power of Six, Pittacus Lore's second instalment in the pulse-racing Lorien Legacies series - now a major movie franchise for Dreamworks.

We are the last defence.

I've seen him on the news. Followed the stories about what happened to John Smith. To the world he's a mystery, but to me ... he's one of us. Nine of us came here, but sometimes I wonder if time has changed us, if we all still believe in our mission.

There are six of us left. We're hiding, blending in, avoiding contact with one another, but our Legacies are developing and soon we'll be ready to fight. Is John Number Four - and is his appearance the sign I've been waiting for? And what about Number Five and Six? Could one of them be the raven-haired girl with the stormy eyes from my dreams? The girl with powers that are beyond anything I could ever imagine? The girl who might be strong enough to bring the six of us together?

They caught Number One in Malaysia. Number Two in England. And Number Three in Kenya. They tried to catch Number Four in Ohio ... and failed. I am Number Seven. And I'm ready to fight.

Formulaic, no great work of literature, but fun enough for a summer read. I picked up 6 of the 7 books at a library book sale for $4, so I'll keep working my way through. Other 7-series books way better to spend time with: Narnia, Harry Potter

Not saying it's great literature by any means, but it was easy to fall back into the story and I definitely wish I had the next book in the series to pick up right away.

In this second book you are introduced to Marina, or Number Seven. She is in Spain with her Cepan Adilena living in an orphanage at a church. The story jumps between her pov and number Four's pov. I am really liking this series so far and can't wait to finish it.

A fantastic follow up to the hugely successful 'I am number four'. We get introduced to another number and also learn the history of Six. I thought this one might be too predictable but it was just as good as the first.

I read I Am Number Four ages ago. I vaguely remember being attached to the book in the hours that I read it. It was nonstop action and I just couldn't put it down. But for some reason I forgot that feeling. When I got The Power of Six and The Rise of Nine, I put the books in my TBR pile and there they sat - FOREVER! Finally, I picked up The Power of Six and couldn't put it down. Oh yeah, I thought. I remember all this action and excitement. I remember this heart-racing fear that Four and Six wouldn't survive. That something was going to happen to Sam because as a human he's just too vulnerable. Why didn't I read this book sooner?

Obviously, I really enjoyed this book. And I am definitely not letting The Rise of Nine sit on my shelf another day. I'm moving straight to it next.

This book is filled with adventure & excitement. It is about an alien war and how certain of the Lorien people were sent to earth to be protected by their guardians until their powers developed and they would be able to fight their enemies (the Mogadorians). Nine children were sent, each with a guardian (Cepan) to protect them. Originally, a charm protected them and they could only be killed in order. That charm was broken in the first book (I am Number Four). Now the children need to find each other and find a way to defeat the Mogadorians and return life to their planet.

The Second book of the series Lorien Legacies is as good as the first book. This book is jammed packed with action and parts of this book had me griped that I couldn't put it down. Last time they teamed up with six and now on the run the Mogadorien and the FBI. They then back track back to paradise Ohio after discovering that Sam’s father was an allie with Lorien and was abducted by aliens. But also that the well in the backyard is a secret office. But there attacked by the Mogs and separate which leads to FBI capturing and then escaping prison. But meanwhile in Spain Number seven has been found and her cepan or guardian has been killed. But she has help from her friend hector and number ten and her cepan. Back in America six has left to help in Spain and now four and Sam are looking for him and sixes chest but they don't find sixes chest but number nines which is being held the mogodorien base. Nine and four escape but same is trapped in sided and they can’t get him out. Back in Spain six has arrived fighting alongside with seven and ten. The battle is won againts the army of soldiers and giant beast but Hector doesn't make it. Now four nine six seven and ten are searching for the other numbers to stop the mogadoriens. The reason I liked this book was because it was action packed and full of new characters. Also I enjoyed the first book in the series so I thought I’d read the second book. I recommend this book for any one that likes a good action and sci-fi book. I also recommend you the first book or this book will make no sense to you and the first one was a good book too. I also like that it left on a slight cliff hanger wasn't that much of one that left me wanting to read more. To conclude this book is a good action and sci-fi book with parts that will keep you from putting it down.

Let's be honest: it's not very good. The writing isn't awful, but it's not great. The plot is full of holes that are badly patched. Plot twists that come out of nowhere (not in a good way), and solutions that are too convenient. Villains that are stereotypical and one dimensional, conveniently turning to ash when they die so there's no guilt or conflicting emotions when a hero kills them. They're so "evil" that they're dehumanized and so aren't even interesting. But there's a certain enjoyable aspect about it. It's different than most YA literature in that it's science fiction (sort of) and focuses on a boy rather than a girl. It has more action than romance.I just really wish it were better. If it didn't take itself so seriously, it might be. But it just isn't that great.

There are nine of them. 3 are dead. They caught up with Number 4, but they didn’t succeed. Marina is Number 7. Living in a Catholic Orphanage in Spain with her protector, Adelina, she longs to leave her past behind her and follow her destiny. When Marina finds her chest that she brought from Lorien with her, she opens it. There, in one of the objects, she sees Number 4’s image. Soon after the Mogadorians catch up with her?John is Number 4 and he is on the run from the Mogadorians. In the last book, he made friends with Sam, a human whose father knew of the Lorien’s presence, and was found by Number 6. The cops are on their tail, thinking their terrorists and John longs to go back to his girlfriend, Sarah. When a secret from Number 6’s past drives them back to Ohio, John’s last known hometown, to uncover a deep, dark secret in his and Number 6’s past. When John and Number 6 finally open his chest, they see Number 7 in Spain through an orb, but manage to alert Mogadorians back to his whereabouts in Ohio as well as to Number 7. Can Number 6 get to Spain in time to save Number 7? Will John make it book number 3?POWER OF SIX starts off slow, but when it starts picking up, the plot takes off. The characters are well-developed. The overall plot is well-written and gripping. Readers who like science fiction, superpowers, and saving the world-type books will enjoy this book. I do recommend, however, that they read I am Number 4 first.

The addition of perspectives from multiple characters makes this book far more interesting than the previous one. Six and Marina were nice additions to the Lorien tale.

Another helping of popcorn and we get a bit more of the origin story. The main problem is there is very little difference between the characters and you can really only tell who is speaking or leading the chapter by the other characters around them. I believe this is why they are constantly splitting up, simply so it is easier to separate them. Fun but not food for the brain by any means

Very quick easy read. The only thing I don't like about this series is how confusing it gets trying to keep everything straight especially in the battle scenes. All the different type of animals and what each are capable of and what they look like for example. It would be nice to have some kind of reference. I also find myself getting confused on the characters a lot their names/ numbers and their abilities. As this series is an old one a reference is not going to happen(unless there's a book out there that I don't know about that does this and there might be) but I suggest to anyone who is thinking of reading this to keep there own log of whats what and who's who.

This book was spectacular. It had the amazing plot and characters I liked from the first book, with a better writing style that made it more read-able.
I like the way the series brings in its new characters over time. I adored reading Marina's point of view, it was refreshing to have a calmer, female voice and a new perspective on the situation.
The US government being added into the mix made things more exciting, though I think it would have been better if not ALL the government characters were represented as universally bad.
Six shined like a star throughout the book, proving herself the true heroine I knew she would be. Go Six for kicking John's ass in training!
Sam was as endearing as ever, and his father's back story was interesting.
John on the other hand- he was generally likeable in an ordinary, almost bland way in the first book, and remains so, but some of his actions in this book were awful.

Kissing the girl he knows his best friend likes, whilst still having a girlfriend? The crush was understandable, but show some restraint!
And I wanted to yell at him for abandoning Six in a fight to meet up with Sarah, it was incredibly selfish.
I hope he redeems himself in the next book, but he has some serious apologising and grovelling to do in my opinion.

DANG IT. ANOTHER BOOK IN THE SERIES IS DONE. WHY?! ...and more importantly: When's the next book coming out? 8I ...cause I'm not sure I can take this waiting thing.

If you're reading the series and paying attention to my reviews at all, you'll know that I fangirled over the first book in this series, I Am Number Four. Well, reading The Power of Six has turned up with pretty much the same results. If nothing else, it's nice to see that an author's writing can continue to be consistently interesting and gripping, promising and exciting, as well as delivering things in a manner that shows a clear writing style. Like the previous book, The Power of Six builds up gradually, at a relaxed pace, and then it all randomly bursts and begins to rush you forward from one action scene to another. If nothing else, Pittacus has the roller-coaster feeling down pact.

He. Is. Doing. An. Amazing. Job.

I'm not gonna go on the whole "trying to convince you to read this" trip again. If you're here at all, it's because you showed enough interest in the first book in order to pick up the second (or at least check out a review about it). You can expect much of the same in this book as was in the last. Less emphasis on the normal and everyday however, and much, much more on the growing war. And trust me, ladies and gents, the war's a'comin'. If this book doesn't make it clear, then nothing will.

I think the last thing I have to say is that, once again, I can't help but praise the way that Pittacus has a way of surprising you. You're constantly expecting one thing to happen, and even when you're right, things never unfold quite how you expect them to. He's great at doing that to you. And for most readers, that's essential for keeping a story interesting. I also like how he took the unfolding romance in stride in this book. It's weird, and I'm not sure if it's settled quite well with me yet, but the way he handled it, I'm not as ruffled as I was initially. At the very least, no one's deceiving anybody about their emotions, and trust me. That's hard to find. Especially in today's crap. Not even gonnna give them the decency of titling them "books", because they haven't earned that right.

BUT! I digress! In the end, this book is really worth continuing. If anything, things are maintaining the same level of intrigue and excitement that fluxes throughout the first book. It's done very well, and if you haven't already, give this series a shot. If you've tried it out and it's just not your genre or not your taste at all, then that's fine. Someone else might like it more. My advice though is to definitely check it out. I think you'll find it a very entertaining and engaging read.

Much better than the first one. I think it has to do with "Lore" realizing that his strength as a writer is in action and mystery rather than romance writing (which the first one was filled with). I swore off the series after the first one, but I'm actually interested again after this one. It has a lot to do with Six becoming a main character, and the way "Lore" writes Seven. Four remains flat and uninteresting, but he no longer has to carry whole scenes.

There's lots of action and the story is divided between two major protagonist groups which gives this sequel added interest. The romance aspect of the story (like the first in the series) was a little heavy handed, but the storyline is exciting and the ending suggests new and interesting developments.

Exciting, fast paced and intriguing - this book certainly kept me hooked until the last page and left me eagerly anticipating the third (and final?) instalment. Sure, the characters seem a but overpowered, and the split-narrative was a little confusing, but overall, this was a darn good read.

Just as intense as the first book with bigger-than-life fight scenes, and good vs. evil showdowns. After the big battle showdown at Paradise High School between the Garde (Lorics) and the Mogadorians John is on the run along with Six and Sam. He is grieving for his cēpan and love Sarah , but he knows he must recover from this battle and seek out the other six Garde Lorics. Nine Garde came to Earth, but has time has changed them-, do they all still believe in their mission to conquer the Mogadorians before they take over Earth. The Mogadorians mission is to kill the Garde, but they can only be killed in order so if they capture a Garde out of the numerical order they hold them prisoner in a cave that is guarded by beasts, force fields and gas. Six knows where this cave is as she was held there, but as her legacies developed she escaped, but wants to return to get her chest of her legacies and the chests of the first three Garde that were killed. Six Garde are hiding, blending in, avoiding contact with one another, although they dream and have flashbacks of each other they stay apart while their Legacies are developing, and soon they'll be equipped to fight. John is number four (next to be killed) and along with Six and Sam this story runs parallel with Marina (number 7 ) and Ella a Loric, but not of the Garde. Ella came on the second ship that Henri talked about in the first book 'I am number Four'. Towards the end of the book Sam and John are sent to find the cave (on Six's instructions/directions) while Six goes to Spain to better understand the flashbacks that she has been having about Marina and Ella. John and Sam, using the invisibility stone, enter the cave and find heavily guarded cells that hold the chests as well as prisoners. One of the prisoners is Number 9 who with the help of Sam & John smashes his way out of the cell and they all run for safety after an amazing battle were 3 take on the multitude. Just as they are about to leave the cave (battered and near death)Sam refuses to leave and re-enters to look for his father, who Sam believes was abducted by aliens who Sam now knows are the Mogadorians.A very distraught John is torn between leaving his mate Sam or along with Nine going in search of Six and other Garde. You guessed blood is thicker than water and Nine & Four (John) drive off in search of Six and any other Garde. I needed to read this book to better understand the storyline and feel that the overall story is good. However the battle scenes are predictable with so few killing many and all humans eventually disposed off or written out so as to leave the Garde who will eventually live and love to re-populate either Earth or return to their planet. I have no desire to read on to books 3 & 4.

Finsihed! Finally! It was harder to get through this one, mostly because John acts like such an idiot throughout a lot of the book. I did like the new additions--Seven, and later on Nine (and another one, but I don't want to spoil that part of it)--and of course, Six kicks butt as usual. All in all, it really moved the story forward and I am looking forward to the last, but not in a hurry for it. I need a break from John, definitely. Perhaps he can act in a more rational manner in book three...at least, I hope so....

The Power Of Six is an intriguing book that starts off with a great hook. As a sequel to I Am Number Four, Pittacus Lore’s writing is just as beautifully written here as in the first book, if not more. Written in the perspectives of John (Number 4) and Marina (Number 7) in opposite sides of the world, each has their own struggles in being maybe one of the last Loriens in the universe. John is now not only hunted by the Mogadorians but the entire nation of the USA for murder and destruction, and traveling with him is Number Six, his mortal friend, Sam, who believes that his father was abducted by aliens, and Bernie Kosar, an ever-faithful Chimæra from Lorien disguised as a dog. And despite his love for mortal Sarah Hart, John finds himself unexpectedly developing a crush on Six-even when his dead Cêpan Henri says Loriens only have one true love.Meanwhile, Marina senses that the Mogadorians are drawing nearer, and her Cêpan has abandoned her duties as protector and is trying to live a normal life in Spain. Her Legacies have begun to develop, and her Cêpan won’t show Marina where the Chest, which contains several treasures from Lorien, is. Even though her Cêpan believes that Lorien cannot be saved, Marina finds a few friends to help her in the weeks of stress and despair.Complete with death, magic, romance and action, The Power of Six didn’t have one page that made me want to put it down. Although some parts were a bit confusing, soon after there were tiny hints that I could pick up and draw conclusions. This was helpful to me and other strong readers, but this may be difficult for those that aren't as skilled in reading. Along with this conflict were parts that I had to read over and over just to understand where Pittacus Lore was going with in his novel. These points showed weakness in his book, as every book has a few.Despite these conflicts, The Power of Six certainly is a worthwhile read. The plot was fantastic, and the quality was great. I recommend this book to teens and adults who are looking to curl up with a great read.
