Visualisation is the formation of a mental image. When we daydream we are visualising, but this is often subconscious. The act of visualisation is more conscious and deliberate, and is used in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to overcome certain afflictions or discover deeper aspects of ourselves.
Visualisation can be incredibly powerful. Studies have found that people who picture themselves flexing a muscle can achieve real-life physical strength gains.
