Countdown’s journey back to Woolworths

It hasn’t been that long since Woolworths in New Zealand transitioned to the Countdown brand. And now, it’s undergoing a reversal. Bríd Drohan-Stewart, Director of Brand at Woolworths New Zealand, shares the rationale behind this decision to revert to the original name and what this transition actually means for the brand.

WHAT IS THE STRATEGY BEHIND THE RETURN TO THE WOOLWORTHS BRAND?

We know that there’s a lot to love about Countdown, but there’s also things that our customers, team and communities want us to do even better. Our aim with this transformation is to give our customers the best possible supermarket experience, and as part of that, we’ll be bringing the best of Woolworths to New Zealand and sharing the best of what we have here with the wider Woolworths Group.

So we think it makes sense to operate under a brand that Kiwi customers already know for great value, fresh products and rewards –
