BEHIND THE QUILT

RICH TONES

“I love using traditional blocks and the patterns they make when combined with other blocks. My most recently commissioned quilts have included a medallion centre with surrounding blocks and borders. In every quilt I make, I try to incorporate a ‘new to me’ block or skill. The choice of colours came from a recommendation from my fashion graduate daughter; the autumn/winter colours for 2022, suggested by the fashion industry. There is rich burgundy, vibrant emerald and cobalt and the more muted tones of crimsons and lilacs. The blocks allow for outline quilting, which is my preferred quilting style.” – Eileen Shone
